Is it still in good working order, or maybe you had to refill the gas inside?

    Old vs new scopes

This is really a good advice, you bet I will. Also I would say that resolution and trasmission are (to me), just alf of the equation, because when hunting I also need a really tough scope, not only a bright one. On this side, the old ones are as as good (or better) that the top ones of today...

Ciao Clodo! Yes the scope is in best conditions, maybe I will try the trick that Ray suggest, and very likely send it to Swarovski for a complete check up...

Sounds good Ray, thank you for the advice, it's easy to do and the procedure will detect any problem with the o rings and the original inert gas inside (y)

    Old vs new scopes

Recently I purchased a really like new Swarovski Habicth Nova 3-9x36, a scope made in the middle '90s. I've always liked similar Zeiss or Swar, because the 36 objective can be mounted pretty low. I have Swar Z6s and Schmidt & Benders, and I can honestly say that the old 3-9 does a really good...

    Best Wet Weather/Mountain Boots?

After your message I checked the website : unfortunately they do not anymore... Sad, because they're super. But Scarpa still produce the Ladakh, and they're also a great product...

    Best Wet Weather/Mountain Boots?

I use Asolo boots, model I prefer is "Lagazuoi" - they're the best I've ever had, tough as a tank, totally watherproof, and very confortable. Also I have a pair of Scarpa "Ladakh GTX", also extremely well built, but a bit on the heavy side to me - anyway, very good ones.

    What Is Your Personal Limit?

I'd say it really depends by the size of the game animal and the conditions. As for a general upper limit, could be 300mt/330 yds, since I practice all year long at that distance with my hunting rifles - all of them wood & blued, skinny barreled, max 10x optics. Anyway, as Clint says "a man's...

My new (old) Winchester 70 Featherweight : please an help in guessing his age

Just purchased a "like new" Featherweight in 270 Winch, a rifle/caliber combination I've always wished to have. It appears to be in 101% condition, still the factory grease over metals, never ever fired, never bases/rings mounted on. It's an unsold rifle from a closed (...quite long time ago)...

    Partition 416 : any opinion?

Thank you friends! I've found Barnes TSX 400, but my goal would be find Swift and Woodleighs. Unfortunately at the moment they are both pretty difficult (say : impossible) to find, just I hope the situation will get better in the next few months... In factory load, my barrel likes very much...

    8x68S owner's opinions

So my pet Sauer 8x68S will be my Mountain Grizzly gun in upper Yukon. I can't figure out a better combination of speed, bullet weight (200) and section for THAT kind of Grizzly. But, maybe, with a Swift 220 and enough speed (2750/2800 fps are doable), it would also be a Brown/Costal Bear...

Calibers that make your Professional Hunter shudder

Yes, you're right, I know I could reload for it a less temperature sensitive recipe, the problem is that here in Italy I can't find ANY powder suited for a 300 Wby at the moment. That, since the end of '21. I shot Norma factory load, Oryx 180. They use MRP that I guess is the same of your R22...

Calibers that make your Professional Hunter shudder

As for the Weatherbys, my experience is limited to the my 300, but I can well understand why some PHs dislike them - mine it's really accurate....but only when it's really cold, and as soon the temperature goes over 10° (celsius) the groups open and open. At 25° it shot very bad. So I can only...

    Ugly question: 9.3x62 vs .338WM

On a different note, just for the love of vintage boxes (and times)... I mean...when I was a kid, 338 was synonymus of Alaska, Last Frontier, wild adventures... I've always loved it
  34. Phil Giordano

Well boys, what's your temperature like now?

You won't believe it, but here in Rome today October 24th, still is 27°/28° during the day - more than 10° the everage temp for the season. The same in the past weeks, and following the forecast, the same for the next 10 days at least. Great for turists, but so strange, and definitely a bad...

best bolt action for dangerous games

Well, my Rem 700 is just a 300 Win and is not by any means a DG rifle - just the first Elk rifle I had, and a very good one on that regard. Very accurate and dependable, light and trim. My Dangerous Game rifle for Africa is (or better jet the one I plan to use for the purpose) is a Rigby 416...

best bolt action for dangerous games

Very interesting to know that about the M98 estractor - as for the Rem 700, sure I know it's not the kind of action suited for DG, mine was just an example regarding a very single aspect of that action.

best bolt action for dangerous games

Love my DG Mauser Action in 416. That said, one thing I don't like about the CRF actions (but I truly like in Rem 700 action...) is that - cornered - you can't just drop one in the chamber, close, and shot  So my bet obviously is for my pet Rigby, but still I think is not " 100% perfect"

First trip to africa. How to build a heavy arrow

My advice is not only to use an eavy one, but also work on the FOC and built a good, sturdy, nose eavy, cut on conctat arrow. You'll find the FOC formula easily on the web. There are plenty of super tough and high quality shaft on the market, once you'll buy a dozen they will last you a long...

What is your 'I wish I was xx' age?

I'm 48, and to me it's a beautyful age - so I would stay here, right as I am. But, I really would have my age in the mid '70s or maybe 1980! Plenty of everything, lot of good stuff "made in the right place", lot of hunting and fishing opportunities, less complicated life, lot easier to travel...

International hunting and the new divided world

To me, it's a more a feeling than a practical aspect, it's a sensation of instability and worry. You know, we in Europe are very close to the "problem", and even more in the past few days due to the end of North Stream 2. Anyway, the World is for sure a less safe place, every day less, at...
