There is a factory in Germany which produces .404 brass https://huelsenmanufaktur.de/homepage I ordered some different caliber (but no .404 to be honest), it's a good quality for a fair price. But I don't know if shipping in the US is an option. Maybe just ask them, they are very friendly

Well, you are right with your statement. I personally think it's the same issue with any kind of technical inventions - it depends on the person using it. Starting with: Rifles are tools, they usually don't kill on their own will. They are used by somebody to do so... So thermal imaging is...

I am using a Pulsar Thermion (the first version of it) since it's legal to do so. But the only usage is for hunting wild boars because of the damage in the fields... nothing else... It's working great for shots up to 200 metres, so I truly can recommend it for this kind of usage. Calibres up...

The 8.5x55 Blaser wouldn't kill anything that a 8x57, a 30.06 or a 8x68 couldn't. But with all the alternatives life is much cheaper and easier in sense of factory ammunition... Personally I would never buy a rifle in this proprietary caliber because of that...

And of course all shots from guys who can kill a flying bee at 500m with a single shot out of a cold barrel when asking them... that's...

That's exactly what I meant with "learned adequately". It's a pity, that you had to make this experience...

In fact every gunsmith, who learned his profession adequately, should be able to build a rifle in this caliber... Of course there are black sheep, but if quality parts are used (e.g. the right Mauser, GMA, MRC,... actions and a quality barrel brand) a magnificent rifle is born...

In fact that's exactly what I was thinking about before getting my .404. I talked to my smith and ordered the amount of brass and other components that fit my needs over the next 10 to 15 years... that's a period of time which makes me sleep well :)

Well a 30-06 (which I use in the 8x64S version ) would kill anything a 8.5x63 does... In fact one rifle in >=7mm would be sufficient for everything, but DG. But life would be boring without some toys

As far as I experienced it: Usually young, rich Hipsters who played to much war video games and think it's cool to look like a special forces member while hunting... Of course they can't really handle any weapons in real life and won't hit a door with a shot, but hey - at least they look cool...

A friend of mine is using the 2-12x50 on his R8 and I got the chance to have a look at it. Nice scope within the mid-price range. From my personal perspective it's comparable to Z6 or Kahles. Personally I don't like the combination of a scope and a second thermal option at the same time. But...

I was very lucky once, because my smith managed to grab two Dumoulin 98 actions. One of them wasn't even used... They became a 8x64S and a 8x57IS... Since then I am looking for this systems like a junkie... stunning quality at a very reasonable price, including an adjustable trigger...

Well I never had any issues while using a .243 Win starting from foxes, badgers and golden jackal up to deer and boars (where allowed)... So +1 for it's usage and if Santa won't treat you well, just make yourself comfortable for being your own Santa this year

Hi Guys I have been looking several days now to find some proper cleaning equipment for the .404 Jeffery. Obviously it's not that easy in Europe to find nylon brushes or a matching patch holder in .423... All I found was a BoreSnake for .416 to .460 and a bronze brush. I didn't find snap caps...

After sleeping it over I ordered the Kahles 1-5x24. As I understood some of you, it should be pretty enough for 99,9% of hunting Buffalo and some of the bigger PG situations during one Safari...

It was built by an Austrian gunsmith (not in Ferlach). I am going to use Barnes TSX 400 gr, but the perfect load still has to be found. It's not that easy any more, because some powders are not available any more here in Austria...

I probably would be able to get a Z8i for around 2.300€, but I am also thinking about the Kahles 1-5x24, which costs around 1.450 €

I love smoking a fine cigar while sitting and waiting for a deer, stag, wildboar,... Just because of getting an idea from which direction the wind is coming - of course Most of the time Samaná, Leon Jimenez or a new german brand named "cigarkings"...
