Make whatever you want... I keep making my .458's in carbine form. I like the quick and balanced handling of carbines for the .458 WM cartridge.
My latest is a Ruger M77 Mark II that started life as a 7mm Rem Mag. It is a stainless model, with a #4 20" Bob Jury barrel in a Bell & Carlson...
I stop at the .458 Lott, but not because of recoil...simply have no need for more... and I only have the Lott because I loved that cartridge in my Ruger RSM. I have mostly used .458 WM Carbines for hunting when the bigger-bore bug struck and I have a number of loads designed for specific tasks.
It's hard to wade through all of the conjecture in this thread... it always amazes me how gun nutters love splitting hairs. Load the right bullet to the right speed and neither of these are lacking, nor are a hundred others.
Or maybe some people just like to shoot big bore rifles... the opposite of "little man's disease" is the "recoil phobia." Lott's of "pooh-poohing" goes on from the recoil terrified when they mock folks using big bores on medium game... but why not? There are plenty of circumstances where it is...
It is not too much... I have used my Ruger M77 RSM Lott on deer and bears with good results and minimal meat damage, just load the right bullet to the right speed.
If it works, it works... there is always something bigger, but enough is simply that... enough. A full load with a 500 grain bullet out of a .458 WM is enough.
Beware! There are many false prophets... when a man from the bottom of the globe approaches in rumpled shorts and silly hat with bad knees and proclaims such .25 cal heresy, you will surely know him as the serpent from the garden!
P.S - .35 cal is not sin, but your only redemption.
Bob, don't know why you are comparing the .25's to the 6mm's... they are both equally anemic and pointless calibers... every adult starts their shooting at 6.5mm.
I also, love the .458 WM and share your affinity for carbines, although I prefer the Ruger flavor...
My latest .458 Carbine is an M77 Mark II Stainless with 20" Bob Jury barrel and NECG sights, I also mounted a Leupold VX-R 2-7X33, as my eyesight is failing as I age.
