SOUTH AFRICA: Time To Go Buffalo Hunting

Nicely done sir. Glad you found one to shoot. Love the bosses. A nice buffalo indeed. Thanks for sharing with us. You definitely earned him. Congrats Bruce

Yes,Yes! Nice bull. Looks like a great job by all involved. That certainly deserved a drink by the fire.

Good shooting Johnny. You know that we were all pulling for you. Nice bosses on that buff. Good luck on the PG portion of your hunt. Wall-space, wall-space, mu kingdom for some wall-space. LOL

Congrats Johnny!

Wonderful John and I'm so happy for you. What an awesome bull. Congrats and good luck in the Cape!

Congratulations Johnny! When you look at the photo of those recovered A-Frames, you got to wonder why anyone would use anything else. The A-Frames flat out perform!

Fantastic. Congratulations on such a nice buff.
Really enjoyed the hunt, thanks for taking us along.

Absolutely!

Johnny, I may have missed it but did you take that buffalo with a .375 Ruger? And what are you using for your plains game hunt?

So I just re-read this thread and realized the title is now misleading. It should read Buffalo done, now time to hunt other cool stuff. Not sure what the policy is on that.

Great Buff, looking forward to the PG.

Thanks all. We departed Johanasberg at 6.30 am for Port Elizabeth to begin our PG portion of the hunt. We arrived at Marius's house for a quick change of clothes and off we went to hunt black wildebeest. Marius had seen a very good bull some time ago so we were looking for a specific bull. We got to the hunting area and after a short walk we found a herd milling around as blackwildbeest do. We glassed for quite a while hoping the herd would get to a better spot should we see the bull. Several stalks were blown once from Impala busting us and the zebra. Finally we got to a good spot to look over the herd and Mr. Big was in there . Fast forward two blown stalks again.

Once again we tried to manauver into position this time crawling on hands and knees. This 59 1/2 year old body doesn't respond well to that.. anyway as we approached again something busted us and off they went this time they were at least 2 miles away going strong up a side hill. Marius and I kinda looked at each other like well quess this is over.... then Marius said there coming back! We sat down short sticks up and waited. The hunting gods we're shining on us the herd began to cross 160 yards in front of us. Marius whispers he's the last one. The bull slowed and gave me a broad side shot, I squeezed the trigger on the 270 wsm and hit him solid he took several steps backwards and fell. It was over. Massive bosses on the old guy. Marius was very happy with him and I guess he'll do. Just kidding! Great blackwildbeest. Tomorrow we drive 3 hours for Vaal rhebok. Hopefully I'll have another good day!

Not sure Mike. Lol.

Congrats on the nice bwb!!!

Damn nice black wildebeest buddy...congrats! Good luck tomorrow on the Vaal Rhebok as well. That's on the short list for me the next time I hunt the EC.

Yes on the 375 Ruger. Was using 300 grain Swift A frames backed by Northfork solids. Using my 270 wsm with 140 grain bonded bullets for the PG except on waterbuck. I'll switch back to the 375 on them.

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...
Behind the scenes of taking that perfect picture.....

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
