There is no rule on that. Any member of the house can pretty much request anything they want as long as the request isnt in violation of house rules…

The speaker can then decide what to do with that request..

You can ask for 5 minutes to do an Irish jig to demonstrate your appreciation of fine whiskey from the Emerald Isle.. the speaker will decide if the houses time is worth that or not.

No one is entitled to anything.

The more appropriate question would be why dozens of democrats chose to make a spectacle of such a request. If they didn’t want to pray, they weren’t being asked to personally participate.

They don’t even have to remain in the chamber if they want to leave for a few minutes.

Or they could politely state their dissent to the speaker and make a case for why the request shouldn’t be honored…

But instead, people that are clearly douchebags that we have elected into public office would prefer to demonstrate to the world their douchebaggery..

That is unfortunately what the far left has rescinded itself to.
Somewhat different, but a lengthy tribute to our son was read on the senate floor, and thus placed in the senate record. As you say, there is no rule against it, and the request should have been honored.

Charlie Kirk was one of the most dangerous humans in the United States of America, he threatened a way of life, he threatened a system that took decades to put in place, and they killed him for it. Charlie embodied 5 things better than any figure in America today:

1. He loved Jesus Christ
2. He was self-educated
3. He openly discussed both
4. He focused those discussions on the hearts and minds of young people
5. He was self-made and answered only to himself and his creator

These are all things democrats despise, any one alone would elicit vile disgust from the left, all 5 in one human made him quite possibly the most dangerous man in the world.

God Bless Charlie Kirk, God Bless Erika Kirk, and God Bless their Children.

Regarding the Kirk assassination, a friend has long called what was going on "chumming for monsters." It is akin to putting blood in the water for sharks to attract them. In this case, it is appealing to sick individuals to commit violence.

The Left and its rhetoric treat those they disagree with as less than human. Or what Hitler and the Nazis called "untermensch". Conservatives are called Hitler, fascists, racists, divisive (to use MSNBC's word), anti-trans and anti-gay bigots and the list continues and continues.

As he put it, the Leftists are reaching out in the most crass way possible to the very deepest levels of the culture, where the monsters swirl and snap and hope for their moment in the sun, their chance at immortality.

We saw the result yesterday and in the days before at Annunication Church and School.

Could not agree more.

I was at a bank meeting this morning before the CK incident, we had a 60 something business woman go bananas and on the verge of raging, over Trump’s tariffs on coffee and convinced Trump was going to appoint himself head of the FED for life. At first we thought this was stupid and funny and then it turned serious. We damn near had to escort her out and call security. Keep in mind this is a highly educated and very high net worth individual.

These people are very unstable and are set off by very little.

I believe it, it's been years since I've seen a child have a full on public temper tantrum/melt down; wish I could say that for the 65+ crowd.

Two weeks ago my office hosted a town hall for a sitting congressman with a huge turn out of people ranging from college students to late eighties and I was surprised by the amount of uniformed law enforcement that was present as well as the amount of people there under the age of 30.

The congressman spoke for about 30min and then opened the room up for questions with a statement about civility and how he welcomed questions from everyone and asked that questions be stated in a civil manner, then it became apparent why the law enforcement presence was needed.

The 65+ female attendees proceeded to suck all the oxygen out of the room with endless ramblings of hatred for Trump; and make completely unhinged and false statements about everything from social security to Viagra..... It was literally the most uncivil and childish behavior I have ever seen!

NO ONE under the age of 65 got to say a word and it was blatantly obvious that the older women attending this event were taking full advantage of law enforcements reluctance to put elderly women in handcuffs and all of them had their cellphones in their hands and on video just incase.

@WAB I don't mean to pry, but you opened the door by referencing your son. His life sounds like it was well lived to be read into the senate record. Would you be willing to share details with your AH friends? God bless you and your son.

Just a heartfelt message to the Kirk Family ;
The world witnessed an evil act and the effects thereof are longstanding and tragic. However,
your husband, son, father, brother will be remembered not by the way he died....but by the way he lived!
Charlie touched the lives of many people around the world including me and my wife here in South Africa.

He was a blessing and he was called home to his Father.

We are shedding a tear for his family, but are consoled by knowing where he is now.

We will hold you in our prayers.

Update from Fox and supportive of @mdwest 's post. Clearly, and contrary to the speculation all over X and elsewhere, this was not a "professional." If the report is accurate, they will have him or his body soon. Likely a self-radicalized nut job who has spent too long on the internet.

Authorities have recovered what they believe to be the firearm used to assassinate conservative activist Charlie Kirk, the FBI announced Thursday.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert Bohls made the announcement during a Thursday morning press conference at Utah Valley University.

The weapon "is a high powered bolt action rifle. That rifle was recovered in a wooded area where the shooter had fled. So the FBI laboratory will be analyzing this weapon. Investigators have also collected footwear, the impression of a palm print and forearm imprints for analysis," Bohls said.

"We are not sure how far he has gone," Bohls added about the assassin.

Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason confirmed that the shooter appeared to be "of college age," but he declined to offer more identifying details.

Mason said footage from the campus showed the shooter climbed to the roof of a building overlooking Kirk's event. He then jumped from the building and fled to a nearby neighborhood after the shooting.

Sounds like they have recovered the rifle, no word on caliber other than a high powered bolt action rifle. Also they said a college aged person jumped off of the roof and ran into a neighborhood.
One of my nieces lives just to the north of the university. The police are checking all the ring cameras in the area. They believe that he ran right past her home.

Where the university is located at in 5 minutes he could be on the freeway and in 15 be totally out of the area.

there are some similarities.. but they are very limited.. that argument is really apples and oranges..

the minnesota lawmakers were state level legislators.. they were not in any way on the national stage...

and they were indeed buried with full state honors.. they were put lying in state, at the MN capitol, given a state funeral, and numerous members of the federal legislature attended their funerals to include Chuck Schumer, Dick Durbin, Amy Klobachar, Tina Smith, and Kelly Morrison... The Governor of MN, Tim Waltz, held candlelight vigils at the State Capital.. The President of the United States, Joe Biden attended the funeral..

Both Hortman and Hoffman were declared Catholics, but neither were known to be heavily involved in their churches..

Kirk was very much on the national stage and his organization, Turning Point is one of the most influential conservative advocacy groups in existence right now and NUMEROUS federal govt political leaders are deeply involved in Turning Point..

Because he is NOT a politician however, he will not be afforded many (if any) of the rights and honors that Hortman and Hoffman were provided...

He was also very well known to be devoutly Christian and heavily founded in his faith....

As a rule, Democrats arent exactly advocates of Christian faith or public prayer even though many profess Christian faith and beliefs..

where Democrats choose to do things like dress in African garb and kneel in the rotunda.. Republicans have often (Kirk is far from the first time) responded to crisis by requesting public prayer..

The difference as I see it is... Had Chuck Schumer or Nancy Pelosi called for prayers on the senate or house floor for Hortman and Hoffman, Republicans would have very likely participated and supported that request... but neither Schumer or Pelosi, or any other Democrat asked for that...

Bobert asked for it.. and the response she got from Democrats was outrage and ridiculous outcry over a pretty simple and easy to execute gesture...

That alone tells you pretty much everything you need to know about the current values and attitudes of each party..
Democrats ridicule and belittle "prayer and thoughts "and wouldnt want an appeal to the God they do not believe in or represent as a party of hatred. Seriously PRAY to the God you donot believe in or attempt to follow. Oh, ok just for show of self righteousness.

A person who is slightly familiar with a rifle and scope could take 3/4's of my rifles out of my safe and make that shot.

All my rifles are zeroed at 200 yards except for two of them and they are zeroed at 250 and 300 yards.
What I meant in the original statement was this wasnt an amateur shooter who went to the gun store and bought a mauser and took a 1 day lesson , a neck shoot is highly accurate shot not an aimed too high center mass ,got lucky.
what Im hearing was the recovered weapon was a Mauser in 30-06 caliber ," barreled or bored" and all the ammo still in the magazine was engraved with anti fascist propaganda. 1 shot 1kill, unfortunately .

I probably became aware of Charlie Kirk around the 2016 election. This may be typical of most Americans with a political bent. Kirk went from a speaker at colleges to the national stage during the intervening years.

What I didn’t realize until the past 24 hours was his international appeal. From world leaders condolences to comments made on AH by those living outside America. Kirks message seems to transcend the American political landscape.

Hopefully there will be young piers to fill the void and his message will be amplified in his martyrdom.

Here's a photo of Tony receiving that Shaw & Hunter award at the 1970 annual EAPHA Dinner Dance. Tony Dyer, then EAPHA President and Princess (Sunny) von Auersperg presented it. I also attended the event.
