Is the 7mm prc suitable for plains game?

@sproutp2003, I've taken probably close to a dozen West Texas elk cows with the 7mm PRC and an equal number of Aoudad, some at significant distance. Consequently, I think you are going to be golden for your plains game hunt. As all of the gentlemen before me have so aptly stated, stick with...

Great looking weapons you've got there @Reg26 and should be perfect for your PG hunt - I look forward to your hunt report. BTW, where abouts are you located? Looks like some really nice country with rolling hills and appears the Spring rains have been good to you! Good luck and safe travels!

How do you steam dents out of a stock?

Thanks. Sounds like the actual process itself is very similar to the technique described by @cash_tx, with the only difference being you go hotter longer, correct?

How do you steam dents out of a stock?

Thanks @cash_tx for the insight - that's good stuff and very much appreciated! I've got some rifles with your normal run of the mill safe dings along with dents from being out in the field, etc., but was always under the impression I was just stuck with those .... until I read your post. They...

How do you steam dents out of a stock?

I read with great interest today as @cash_tx made a comment in his twin .375 Whitworth's thread about steaming the dents out of his brother's stock. I didn't want to hijack that thread and ask then, but it peaked my curiosity. I would like to hear from those in the know what that process looks...

    A pair of Whitworth 375's

Very cool and good thing he called you! I try and do the same thing with my kids - when the old man goes to the happy hunting grounds, there will be a fair and equitable distribution of like calibers, so need to fight over them, lol!

    A pair of Whitworth 375's

That is a fine looking set of tried and true "brothers" you have there - congrats!!! Very cool that you have your Dad's rifle and your brother has one that rolled off the same year. Curious if he had been actively pursuing one just like yours or if he just stumbled across this one out of the...

Shooting 458 Win Mag ammo out of the 458 Lott

Took the CZ 550 out for its maiden voyage this afternoon and could not have been more pleased! Handles great and recoil with the Lott ammo was only marginally more than with the WM ammo - was shooting 500 gr factory rounds out of both. I had different POI between the Lott and WM rounds as...

Shooting 458 Win Mag ammo out of the 458 Lott

Good evening - I'm looking for a little guidance on the subject. I just acquired a CZ 550 in 458 Lott and have a few questions about ammo use. I have always heard one of the great advantages to owning a Lott is the ability to use 458 Win Mag ammo if you were to ever get in a pinch. I have...

    The Perfect 9.3x62 Safari Rifle

@perdurabo, you could not have chosen a better round for Nilgai than the 9.3x62 and that cartridge, along with 35 Whelen are my two favorites for the Blue Bull of India. The CZ 550 American is my tops for the x62 and I believe it will give you everything you are looking for, including a more...

    Rifle for daughter

Another vote for 7mm-08. My daughter has used hers on mule deer and even elk cows without a single issue. Recoil is mild and definitely lots of versatility with hand loads.

What Have You Killed with the 7x57

This is my 7x57 - it wasn't built for me, but as far as I can tell research indicates it was built by Dennis Tasto, an old time gunmaker here back in the 90's. It has never been across the pond with me, but I have taken some Axis deer here with Lapua factory 11.2g SP's to great results. Just...

Age of first African hunting trip

Congrats @Aixenmemphis on taking the plunge - as many have said before me, you won't regret and will already be planning your second trip on the plane ride home. Winchester Model 70 375H&H + Tons Of Ammo $2,400

I wholeheartedly agree with @sierraone and @NIGHTHAWK - if you're new to the game, this would provide a very solid foundation and you can't go wrong on this deal. @BearHunter77, did you ever find anything? If not, I would give this careful consideration.

Educate me - original cartridge vs. Ackley Improved?

Thanks for sharing those observations @HuntingGold - I look forward to hearing about the rest of your results. I have a 280AI as well from HCR, but have never tried to handload for it because it is a 3/8" gun with Nosler factory Trophy Grade ammo and their 160 gr Accubonds. It's a killer too...

Educate me - original cartridge vs. Ackley Improved?

Conceivably then, a good handloader should be able to make either the parent or the improved cartridge equally accurate (or at least fairly close) out of the same rifle, knowing of course there is going to be a substantial difference in velocities given case capacity.

Educate me - original cartridge vs. Ackley Improved?

Good intel, thanks. Was really not trying to accomplish anything per se, but posing the question in the event one didn't have access to the AI rounds (for whatever reason) and had to go back to the parent cartridge, what would that to do to your accuracy? It sounds to me based on your...

Educate me - original cartridge vs. Ackley Improved?

I'm not sure the specifics of my question have been covered before (I couldn't find it), but if so, apologies in advance. I know the original cartridge can be shot out of the Ackley Improved version rifle, which is in fact how most of the brass is formed (provided there are no factory offerings...
