Zimbabwe Political Update

After being in the bush for two weeks we drove into Bulawayo, filled up diesel @ $1.10 per liter.
Changed money @ 3.2 to 1. Went to KFC bought to lunches @ B24.00 ($8.00). Everything as quiet as a rocky mtn. Town Sunday morning.
Police searching some vehicles leaving Bulawayo. Looking for goods stolen by looters.

Going to the local pub for a ice cold Castle.

What more can I say?

that's the way it's supposed to stay

Hope it all works out. Things should calm down by then.

You know the saying..."trust your PH".

If John says "come", away I go. I trust his judgement.

I just hope, for the sake of the folks in Zim, that things are on a better trajectory for them, and soon.

Long after all of us have had our trips turned into distant memories by the fog of time, the Zimbabwean people will be living with the consequences of the decisions made now.

Tarbe, when are you going & what are you hunting? Maybe you two will be in his next book.

I don’t have a hunt planned in Zim, but after reading John Sharp’s book I had to meet the guy while at DSC this weekend. We talked briefly about the security situation over there, and myself having been to Zim in the middle of a bad time in 2006, I’d go today with a PH I trust.

August for Cape Buffalo and whatever else the BVC and our bank accounts allow!

I have a hunch John will be able to write an entire book, just focused on the exploits of @Bullthrower338 ;)

Sounds like a war zone! :ROFLMAO:

Boy if the shit hit hasn’t hit the fan yet just wait for @Bullthrower338 and @tarbe to get there. Zimbabwe is not ready for that. I just wish I was going with them.

Tim, cbvanb and I will be there in August as well. We’re hunting Dande North with Charton/McAllan Safaris. I wish we were going in thru Bulawayo as well, but Harare it is. We are going to charter out to the camp and stay off the roads.

Well, I’m going to the same end of April - and I’m more than nervous regarding the political situation...

I trust my PH. If it’s in the soup they are going to want to be with their families not taking care of us.

Understandable. April is quite a bit closer than August!

Good news is, if you end up in a Zim jail, at least your friends and family don't have as far to travel to visit you! :)

Sorry...just trying to find a little humor in a dark place...

My buddy in Bots is sending some pretty grim pics out. I’m not sure who is getting them out of Zim. I’m sure it’s isolated but it is the charred remains of Zim soldiers. I don’t really want to repost them, they’re very bad.

Glad you didn't post....

Do you know if they are from the initial viokence, or is this some more recent and yet unreported violence against the government ?

Initial I believe. Apparently there are a number of mercs in country supporting the govmt and both China and Russia hanging around the rim looking for opportunity to capitalize. It doesn’t change my thoughts regarding my trip in August, but I sure feel for the folks affected.

Yeah, you know who is sending me the pics. Don’t really want to state it in a public place but suffice to say he is very credible.

Yeah... Assumed as much...

Why I asked the "when."

Also agree I'd still go, but yeah, may still be some tough times on the ground .

Definitely keeping Kathy out of these threads!

This isn’t making me feel great about my trip. I arrive in country in August also. Flying into Vic Falls and out thru Bulawayo.
