ZAMBIA: Zambian Adventure At Takeri Game Reserve

gday biddle, he was a cracker and half ,that bull ..............

Bluey, great hunt sometimes you have everything go downhill to just make you appreciate the great times in life to be thankful for and treasure . Really like your sable.

Bluey your taking some awesome trophies, are you going to do full body mounts on that pair of Blue's? Guess you can put retirement off for just a few more years. Way to go Buddy!!!

definitely ,bobby
its the sable im really trying to work out how I want the pedestal ,to be .
was going to ,have him turning and twisting , but I don't know now , will have talk to the dermist, I sposse
having all of both front legs adds a new idea or two aswell.

That would be awesome bluey I seen a pedistal mount once with both front legs it was great it looked like it was jumping right out of the pedistal. can't wait to see the mounts on them buggers.

Oh it's easy Rob just remember he's from upside down land, you have to stand on your head to read it.:D Beers:
I think instead of the automatic spell check we need an Aussie to English Translation App

she'll be right rob, theres plenty of pictures for you ,if you look at them for long enough , you'll get the gist ,mate ....:A Give Us A Hug::A Give Us A Hug:

To Funny Bluey,Glad you had a Successful trip

Great trip and story so far bluey! Love the blues and that Sable is a "stud"! Finally fulfilling a dream is a life changing experience. Happy for you buddy!

Just started reading this tonight bluey, great report so far! Love that sable!!

up and gone by 0520
to check the croc baits
on the way there we seen waterbuck, a thumper of a loner eland bull sable, puku , blue duiker and bush buck
the bait area was untouched ,so backed out and went to the flood plains to look for a good representive lechwe.
all the while hoping to bump into the big blue eland bull ,we seen yesterday, patsy keep making jokes about if we could snag the smallest antelope and the biggest in a day , which sounds kinda like a good plan .
we drove and drove ,looking we stopped about nine at a place the takerians call the phone pole .a big ant hill where there is phone service , true to form mikes , up on the high seat ringing his beloved we had coffee and pickled sable rolls ,leftovers from last night feast, lackson goes for a walk on the other side of the dried swamp ,to see what he could see,
came back saying he didn't see anything .
as we were packing up our second breaky, a herd of lechwe seem to materialize from the shoulder high grass, at the back of the back is the best male
l turn to lackson ,and ask did you just go and open the gate or something ,mate ...
but he didn't get it ....
so were back in the ute and head of the other way to end up in front of them , 10 minutes later spike turns the ute off and a couple of hundred metres away the herd burst from the high grass
we get off and using the cover of a giant ant hill trot to meet them ,all the other bolt past at a bit over a hundred metres and don't stop
bringin up the rear is our fella . as he runs through the clearing , he pulls up[ and stops ,
and that how we got our lechwe.

we packed him up , and got him out of the heat ,straight to the butchery

then we staright back out for a walk ,hoping to find us a reed buck .
we went over to middle of the property somewhere. I had trouble getting my bearing up here , l put it down to being the furtherest , away from the ocean , ive ever been in my life
we walked a ways , and this is the walk we went on that we didn't see any animals at all
around 1300 we through in the towel and had lunch , then made a plan to go out this arvo , to try and find this poor girl sable , that's been limping from a snare .
before we go out patsy sits us down and talks us (me) on what going to happen and how its going to happen , what to expect and what to do /not do .
she makes sure none of us have any cuts on our hands , as these drugs are the real deal and there only so long that she will have to do her thing , and then reverse the drug
all the while she will be blindfolded , and continually being squirted with water , as the drugs make her body temp, sore.
this is something I really want to see.

off we go and an hour or so later , lackson tell patsy this her herd .
so stop to identify her , once we got , pats , stops the ute gets out and starts to mix up the drugs , and prepare her other needles of anti biotic and wormers ,and what not im good as gold till I see how big them bloody needles are , them l shut up step back ,and try not pass out...........them needles take the fun out of this side trip adventure , I don't mind telling you.

once she filled all the needles, wegot back in the ute, loaded the dart gun and slowly ambled back into the herd , patsy says 30 metres is about as close as they will let the ute into , passes me the rangefinder
and said let me know when we are 40 metres please.

as soon as the dart hits the old matraich , the whole herd stops and comes in to her as she wobbles of , with us keep her in eye sight
after a couple of mniutes she goes all wonky ,
and patsy says not all the drug is in her and makes up another , then gives her one in the rump
she goes down ,faster than a brides knickers after that one .
the whole herd are keeping with in a close distance , as patsy and lackson , go in and blindfold her . then mike starts squirting her down to keep her cool , patsy checks to makes sure the snare is not there , only and ugly scar . patsy starts jabbing this poor old queen with all sorts of tonics , while the sable sits there making some eerie bloody noises.once everything is done and dusted
pats call me over to pat her and get some photos with her while they put bright orange earring ,in her so they see her from afar to monitor her healing .
then cool as a cucumber we pack up all the drug boxes and dart stuff
while patsy mixes up the reversal drug
and gives her a jab in either artery in both side of the neck takes the blind fold off
with in 20 seconds the sable queen is on her feet , again . wobbly and wild eyed as she walks back to calf and the rest of the herd muzzle up to her , to make sure their matraich is ok
she has lost a lot of weight and the hind left lag is awfully swolleln, so this clean out and dose up should do a world of good

that was plenty cool , definitely ,yet another highlight
once see shes good to go patsy says , right lets go find you a reed buck ,bluey
we see a cracker , and bail out to walk back but its that loud with all the leaves and tinder dry grass anywhere from knee deep ,to nipple high , we are busted long before we get any where near him
so we decide to come back here and try again in the gusty wind in the morning after a sit in the croc blind .
we head back up the penisula for a walk on the bushbuck ,its been a bit quiet on them today ,weve only seen 8 or 9 , and only two were shooters.
mike drops us off near the house where we have seen a really nice bush buck , in less that 10 minutes we are presented with another blue duiker , he doesn't even know we are there , it is a sitter .
we just keep strolling towards the house , when we are nearly there , mike and tinnus are coming back out to dump the lechwe guts at the croc sight
we let them go ,and waited five minutes to let the dust settle ,then we stalked in our single file quiet mode we developed on the first day . down in there tyre tracks after maybe fifteen minutes we see an eland hoof print in the utes tyre tracks , we step it up a bit trying to spot him ,hoping like mad that its the blue loner bull we seen this morning, after 1/2 a k or so we are at another cross road , patsy , does the right thing and points left and mouths the word little , then turns back the way we have been heading , and mouths big , me and lackson just walk towards big , and we stalk along till patsy deems it to dark for a shot .
when we about face and head back for a shower and a beer ,
love hunting with these two .we are really making a team .

No wonder you were having fun. All form of new experiences.

Keep it coming bluey. I'm loving it. Not to mention I'm learning a whole new vocabulary!
