300 grain Swift A-Frames loaded by Swift.
25 yard shot as it ran from my left to right and hit in the shoulder, plowing the Waterbuck into the ground.
Another shot to the spine to finish.
Had the scope dialed back to 1.5x because we were in thick brush at the time.

I am leaning toward my 6.5x57 as the best all round cartridge for NZ hunting. I built mine on the 1916 Erfurt SR action and a beautiful stick of wood. 2-7 Leupod in Talley rings / Talley aperture

My "truck axle" Win 70 Safari Express 375HH. Yes, it's heavy (11 lbs loaded) but that keeps the recoil down. It fits me, shoots real good and I have a variety of bullets for anything that walks the planet.

So I have two: The one that evokes the most memories and the one I consider my favorite, go to rifle.

The first is a Ruger No. 1 in .270. I purchased it in 1975 at the Rod & Gun Club in Wertheim Germany - a now long abandoned US Army Kaserne in Germany. Over the next 4 1/2 years, I took 5 red stag, numerous wild boar, and dozens of roe deer. While there, a gunsmith friend sent it to Ferlach Austria where the receiver was engraved with a stag on one side and a buck roe deer on the other. Subsequently, it has taken a dozen or more whitetail. It still shoots 130 -150 gr almost anything MOA or better.

However, my favorite hunting rifle is without question is my Blaser R8. With .375 or .300 Win Mag barrels in place, there is simply nothing like it in my experience. It is supremely accurate, blazingly fast, and has the finest ergonomics of any production rifle that I have ever held. It also packs into a very small package for international travel. Simply the best.

With both these rifles I have had some amazing experiences, and we often sit down together late in the evening with an oily rag and a single malt to relive those adventures.

Few years ago bought a Model 70 Winchester Alaskan in .375 H&H. Had my gunsmith re-barrel it to .300 H&H. Is a bit heavy but shoots like a dream. Run 200 Grain Swift A-Frames down its 26in barrel. It does the trick.

Mine without doubt is a custom Pre-64 Winchester Mod 70 in 375 H&H. This rifle paired with Swift A Frames is good to go for anything one can encounter while hunting in Africa, all be it on the small side for elephant. I have great confidence in this rifle and it’s capabilities.

My favorite gun in YOUR collection was that 11.2 × 72 mm Schuler I'd pay a premium for it , if you still had it now Single trigger August Schuler Model 34 rifles are even more rare than the standard two trigger models

For plains game, leopard, lioness and lion on bait, my Brno ZK K602 375 H&H's with pop up peep sights in rear receivers(I have two of these) one is 24 inch barrel with which I use 350 gr Rhino bullets in the thicker stuff and the other one with original 25.5 inch barrel and loaded with 300 gr Rhino bullets for all the other plains game. For wounded leopard follow u I switch to my Brno SxS poor mans double or 9.3x74R/12ga Combination.

For buffalo, hippo, rhino and elephant my Brno ZKK 602 in 500 Jeff, no finer bolt action for the job.

IvW , l know that you're not a huge .458 Win Mag fan , but since you know more about the ZKK-602 than most people here, l have two questions :
1) The ZKK-602 was never made by the factory in .458 Lott , right ?
2) While the .375 HH Magnum Factory ZKK-602s are flawless , is it true that the factory ZKK-602s in .458 Win Mag was a little unreliable since the cartridges would slide around in the ZKK-602 actions and cause Jams ?

That is quite correct, and I have a Pre64 Model 70 in .300 H&H. The Model 70 Alaskan I converted from .375 H&H is a newer production made for Winchester by FN in Columbia, SC.

I love my CZ American in 30-06, had it for years and hunted round the world , I have just got my Rigby in 275 (7x57) this could be my favourite. I hope to blood it next weekend.
