My sentimental pick is my Lakefield Mark II in 22lr my parents bought me as an 8 yo. The Canadian factory where these are built has since been bought by Savage and is still making the Mark II as far as I know.

I have an interest in switch barrel rifles so my current favorite is a Gunwerks Nexus with a 6.5 PRC 20” and 300 PRC 24” barrel. Here in Alberta, the 6.5 PRC is for everything smaller than elk and moose and the 300 PRC for them. Thought I had my ‘last hunting rifle’ lol. However, wanting a 375 I’ve ordered a Blaser R8 professional with 223, 6.5 PRC, and the classic 375 H&H with 23” threaded barrels to take to Africa in September and hunt suppressed with. It is 3-3.5” shorter than an equivalent barrel length bolt action so it should be very handy suppressed. Should be my last rifle now, right? Although I now find myself dreaming about an R8 Kilombero or Selous - both with beautiful wood as well as case hardening on the Selous.

I owe a big thanks to this forum who suggested many great rifles for a 375 as well as affirmed my interest in hunting Africa. Boddington, Massaro, and Von Benedikt get credit too.

Here's a photo of Tony receiving that Shaw & Hunter award at the 1970 annual EAPHA Dinner Dance. Tony Dyer, then EAPHA President and Princess (Sunny) von Auersperg presented it. I also attended the event.

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ
