You want to buy something special, you want to treat yourself, what rifle do you buy?

I’m looking at a Mesa in .308

My only dislike with the Christensen is they come with a smallish bolt knob… easily replaced though for about $50…

I took a spike this morning with the 308 mesa … it’s a dream to shoot… drilled him exactly where I put the crosshairs…

I got lucky… I found mine on the used rack at scheels.. with zero evidence it had ever been fired… not a single scratch on the bolt.. stock was perfect… all cerakote still perfect, etc… $800….

Supposedly they are discontinuing the standard mesa.. you’ll still be able to get a mesa fft (super light stock) new from the factory… so the major retailers have been dropping prices.. and the used market is taking a little bit of a dive… which was wonderful for me lol…

I don't know that I have ever really considered this question. That said, since coming to this site, I have come to really like the custom rifles by Bradshaw. Also, as a lever action afficionado I would love to own something from Bighorn Armory.

If Browning will make a 500 SW IN BLR that will be great. So Barnes tsx could be used.

Someday I would like to add a BLR in .300 WM, pistol grip.

I purchased this 45-70 recently in honor of a very dear hunting friend 'Pete' that passed a few years ago way too young. He had a #1 45-70 and loved it for deer & bear in Pennsylvania. I've worked up some great reloads with 350 grain Swift A-Frames for bear season this coming Saturday and then deer season in a few weeks. I'm looking forward to taking the gun and memories of him into the woods this year....Rest peacefully my dear friend....

You’re going to think I’m crazy for responding with something so pedestrian…

But the next time I treat myself it will be with another Christensen Arms rifle…

I’ve got two at the moment… one in 308 and another in 300 prc… both are absolute tack drivers.. have super smooth actions.. and are perfectly balanced for me right out of the box…

I bought the first one on a bit of a whim… but after shooting it a few months I very intentionally sought out the next one..

They aren’t mutch to look at.. cerakote and Kevlar…

But man do they shoot!
The Christensen Ridgeline might be the best naturally fitting rifle I've ever shouldered when it comes to a modern off-the-shelf production rifle. It's just hard to justify the ~2k for a rifle that I don't need. Kind of a shame that Scheel's seems to be phasing them out of inventory (unless it's just a lull). :)

What's crazy is that the rifle that came in a close 2nd to that is the old Remington 30 Express that I bought there a few weeks ago.

It’s a mode
Beautiful! Tell us about the rifle please....
lt’s a Model 70 Safari Classic with a 1 piece bottom metel, Roger Vardy blank carved by Rob Blomfield in Queensland, Australia. He also did the fitting of the bottom metal and rust blued the barrelled action. Calibre 416RM.
Not too over-done but a ripper big game rifle.

Earlier this spring was a treat myself kind of time. Had some solid work returns coincide with my 50th birthday, so I did a desert bighorn hunt into Senora and then decided to splurge on a Rigby BGR in 416 of course. Plan was to use it for cape buff in May 2025 when I take my 13yo daughter to South Africa, but ended up getting talked into a last minute trip with some buds from our local gun club after their 3rd had an injury and couldn’t make the trip. Plan was just buff, and I couldn’t stay the full time anyway, so committed to 8 hunting days with intent on being super picky on what I was looking for in a Cape buffalo. My Garmin says I tromped 12.8mi on day one, hunting from before sun was all the way up and didn’t stop until my buff tipped over after the sun was just below the horizon. Had actually seen him and the two he was with during the heat of the day but they winded us and busted. Was stalking in on another buff as sun was dropping, nice buff and was thinking I might take him when we got in nice and tight and this guy stepped out with him. He was old, balding in more spots than not, and skinny in the withers in comparison to the other two gents he was with, but he was everything I wanted and more.

After harvesting my buff day 1, couldn’t just make the Rigby hang around camp, so went on to harvest a gorgeous Sable just over 47”, and solid Roan, Kudu, Eland, and Impala. The darn 4-1-6 worked magically on each one of them.

Hands down the prettiest rifle I’ve ever owned. Have a couple Dakotas, and have owned some amazing double guns for skeet, sporting clays, and wing shooting, and some fancy custom wheel guns from some of America’s best makers, but all my rifles have been purpose built for the nasty, wet, unrelenting Alaskan bush with staying exposed and wet for weeks at a time, so everything but pretty. This Rigby was special to say the least.

I like the layaway options, only wish it were in 416 Rigby.

How do you find the recoil on your 450 to all the other big thumpers? Noticeably less than a 500 Jeffery?
Layaway means the outfitter keeps the gun till it's paid for. And who uses it in the meantime? Hmmm. Also, there's usually interest attached. Watch out for hidden booby traps.

Mine is either a nice DG gun (Rigby, Heym, etc.) with a nice walnut stock and color case hardening, or a Desert Tech HTI in either 375 CheyTac or 416 Barrett.

As much as I love and appreciate bolt rifles, my heart holds a special place for lever guns. So I’d probably go for a Turnbull, not sure of caliber at the moment. If not a Turnbull, I’ve always wanted a Winchester 1895.

My favorite way to celebrate is to go to my gun maker with not necessarily a complete build in mind and just start end to end coming up with a build. I love being able to look at my rifles and know that every single aspect/part was picked out by me to make it my own. Every time I go in, there and new stocks, sometimes new actions, finishes, etc. to choose from. The only thing I know going in is it will absolutely have a TriggerTech trigger.

I’m searching for my something special, a 1963 M70 .300wm

I respect your taste and experience my friend but I can’t help it I am just a classical Africa hunter needing beautiful wood stocks not plastic. I know I am in the minority!

I am obsessed with classics. For me, there is something about the look of the wood and the feel of sharp checkering on my hands. However, I do own a few Meat Sticks. One in 340 WM for bigger stuff close and far & this one in 22-250 for pests!

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John buzzardhilllabs@hotmail.com
NRA benefactor, areas hunted, add congo, Mozambique3, Zambia2
Out of all the different color variations of Impala the black Impala just stands out with its beautiful pitch black hide.

Impala is one of the animals you will see all over Africa.
You can see them in herds of a 100 plus together.

This excellent ram was taken with one of our previous client this past season.
