Yes, The Cart is in Front of the Horse!

The secret is to find an Obscure, Obsolete or a long forgotten Wildcat that just happens to fill a void ballistically in your Arsenal

@tarbe Thank you for the laugh. Been there putting the cart before the horse on more than one occasion.

Mate of mine tends to do the same, buys the dies ,cases etc then builds the rifle around them . Seems perfectly logical to me

Is there anywhere to get load data for the 450/400 and the 300 grain hornady bullet

I've still yet to buy some of the 300gr Hornady (only have the 300gr TSX and the 400gr DGS and DGX) but I do eventually plan to get some of the lighter Hornady and will be working up some loads.

I will be sure to share the load data and chronographed velocities once I have them.

Sorry I don't have any data to share at this time.

Tim

I loaded some 300 grain hornady's. And used 83 grains of 4831 SC.

Should make a nice pig load!

I have loaded some 300 and 400gr with Re-15, and 400gr with WW-760 and IMR 4831. Several different powder charges...just trying to get some baseline data - not to mention just need to shoot the rifle 75 - 100 rounds just to get her warmed up to me!

Now I just need a rifle to shoot/chronograph them. :)

I also found a fellow on another site who had two boxes of Hornady factory ammo that he no longer needed. Scored them for $50/box delivered...about the price of bullets and brass.

Will you be chronographing those loads? If so, please publish the results.

Tim

My chronograph quit working May get another. I just used Hornady data for 500 grain. May not be much over 2000 fps

@tarbe, you been running bassackwards now for a couple of months. Isn't it about time to get the horse in front of the cart? Or did I miss something.

Correct 400 gr. Not 500

Tim,
Do you want to at least borrow my 450/400 so you can at least smell the burnt powder?

The seller has been involved in an interstate move and has had a lot going on the past two months.

I assured him that I was not in a hurry and he should take all the time he needs...so just waiting for the PM that tells me where to send the money!

I have 22 months to get ready for the Buffalo!

I had a No.1 in that cal and while it shot very well, full house loads gave me a headache and I sold it and got a CZ in .404 Jeffery, which is basically the same round without the rim.

I need to smell 100+ grains burning from that 470 of yours!

Last weekend and next weekend I have wedding stuff in Dallas.

Weekend after that I am going up to MO to put some of my busted feeders back up to see if I can get some bear pics (hope he got mad over me not feeding for 6 months and left!).

Weekend after that is wedding anniversary. Weekend after that is last minute wedding stuff and weekend after that is daughter's wedding.

So heck, I can't do any serious shooting for the next month!

Yes, the No 1 with the C contour barrel is a little lively.

I shot 400gr at 2040 fps from a 7.25 lb 45-70...ok off hand but pretty rough off the bench!

I have a Pachmayr Decelerator that I plan to put on the rifle. Will also add some ballast to get the balance and weight where I think it should be (at least 9 pounds).

Yes there may be 22 months for those buff but we have to get an A-Frame regulation load for the 470 in 10 months for Australia! So quit dilly dallying with this wedding dammit, the clock is ticking! Lol. Hope bullets and dies are in when I get home.
