Would you like a Cigar?

Both the humidity of the house and inside the humidor is 74

I am using humicare gel beads

The humidor has an excellent seal as it was very leaky when new so I siliconed it

I def do not have a 2-way humidifier, just the gel beads. I will have to quickly read up on that.

Thanks

If the humidity in the house is that high, it will be difficult to lower the humidity in the humidor. You wouldn't need any humidification aids for the humidor.

Just bought some bodeva packs from Amazon (y)

There ya go. That will do it . Throw away the gel pac crap.

What % humidity did you get? You may have to play with it a bit and try some different packs to get the smokes where you want them.

Also realize that it will take a bit for the humidity in the cigars reach thr same as the air in the humidor. They say 1% per week. So if you are at 74 and want to get to 65 that's 9 weeks rest.

This is why I try and let a cigar sit for at least a month before I smoke it.

I use a cigar jar, as I don't normally store many cigars at any one time. I enjoy going to the cigar shop once a week. My cigar jar is air tight, and it keeps the cigars just right, with a Boveda pack rated for the low 60's. A 70 is too much.

I also have an Attach'e (s), type of desktop travel humidor. Holds 25 cigars. That thing would kill a Boveda pack in 7-10 days. Boveda packs in my cigar jar, last a long time.

The other thing that kills cigars is high temperature. If you have temps and humidity above 70 you get, mold, possible tobacco beetles hatching, and poor burning cigars, which in turn ruins the flavor and enjoyment.

If the cigars dry too quickly by lowering the RH, the wrappers can also crack.

If I leave the house for any length of time where I shut down the Aircon, I will put my cigar jar in the refrigerator. Unlike heat, colder temps don't hurt cigars. The jar is air tight, and won't lose much in humidity being in the Fridge.

Bought the 65 Bodeva

Perfect place to start and will likely be all you need although some people seem to adjust up in the winter.

You can also recharge the packs and get by the with two sets, in case you didn't know.

A few tasty additions to the weekend lineup.

Padron classic 7000

Arturo Fuente - Don Carlos No.2

I like Arturo Fuente Cigars. This is one of the premium blends that they make. About $15 a stick. Smooth....with great flavor.

Put some kitty litter in there.. not the clay based clumping stuff.. use the clear, unscented, silica crystals.. you can get a gallon of it for less than $15 at any pet store..

It will absorb excess humidity within just a few days..

Litter works both directions as well. .. if you get your RH a little low, all you have to do is spray a little distilled water on it.. and it will slowly release the additional moisture over time..

I know.. it sounds crazy.. putting something in your humidor that cats piss on..

But think of what it’s designed to do... absorb moisture...

And when it’s over saturated.. the excess humidifies the surrounding area..

Museums use silica crystals to stabilize the humidity around fine works of art.. keeping the art from either drying out or becoming too damp and becoming damaged over time..

You’re really trying to accomplish the same thing..

I use a combination of bovedas and litter... I keep roughly 2 lbs of fairly saturated litter in my cabinet humidor.. and about a dozen bovedas spread around in there as well.. the bovedas absorb the excess as the saturated litter releases.. and keeps my cabinet a stable 63-65 for 2-3 months at a time.. once I see Rah drop below 63 I just go re-wet the litter.. and I’m done for another 60-90 days...

Boy, you go hunting for a couple of weeks, @Brent in Az smokes 15 new brands of cigars, I find out kitty litter is the new crutch for my humidors, and I actually brought back a box of cigars from my trip. Wow, life is good!

Looking forward to your hunting story/pics.

I live vicariously through others! [emoji3]

Stay longer in Africa. You won't have to lug any cigars back with you. LoL

Pulled an ancient Don Peppin stick out of the humidor tonight.. the cellophane was so golden yellow I’m surprised 49’ers didn’t start picking up their pick axes and pans and start heading to Texas in anticipation of the next gold rush :)

Silky smooth.. but still had that distinct Peppin pepper blast on the finish that he is so well known for...

Really nice stick

Sounds like delicious aged nectar of the Tobacco Gods.

I just ordered some more Don Pepin Garcia "Blues" from Cigars Int. They have some 10 pack specials on sale of various brands, along with a free Oliva 5 pack sampler. I just couldn't resist.[emoji3]

Down at the Cigar shop, enjoying an AVO, a little College football, and a little cooler weather.

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!
