Women as Professional Hunters; What's with that?

:E Hmmm:PR has the nails, powder puff , lipstick, half a samurai sword and a G19 sometimes living in her hand bag, has been thrown into some pretty basic situations in the bush ,and can probably drink you under the table.......and drives a Ferrari when she remembers its in the garage........ok she aint a PH and doesnt hunt but fk dont piss her off......:E Big Grin::D Beers:

Sounds like a real lady;)

Erik, thanks for kind words, got malaria fever and not in mood for debating....

Back soon !

Gordon

Is not it a little ironic that only female mosquitoes transmit malaria.

ha ha ha h ah , you'll be thinking , long and hard to top that one , gordo ...........:whistle:

If a female Ph can do a good job
Don't matter to me. I think they should be given a chance

If you get bitten by a female P.H. you have lots of other issues. I have just been mountain lion hunting with a female guide, Zandra, and she knew the mountains and the cats, and I would have a difficult time keeping up all day. When your guide/PH. are professional, it doesn't matter male or female.

Do hope Gordon is recovering.... but this has me doing an honest LOL!

One of the best PH's I have hunted buffalo with is female, Debbie Visser from Mozambique, I am guessing but would say she has at least 500 buffalo under her belt, I have hunted close on 50 buffalo with her, never once saw her flinch. I would rate her as one of the top 5 phs, I have ever hunted with. But on the other hand I have seen woman get a PH license that absolutely know squat about hunting.....there are decent ph schools in SA and then there some real..........

I can attest that one is not gender specific.

Was no pun intended.....:barefoot::cry:

Ok, back again in to the fire...

Guys, female mosquitoes.. ha.ha.. yes that's what I probably have to pay for now :)

Seriously, how many of this female PH do not have a husband that "also" is PH and to therefore for them to receive a DG upgrade on the permit is easy done...

TMS, Debbie Visser -Nyati Safaris or if she freelancing like most of this girls do, have guided over 500 buffalos... come on, do you believe that you self ?????

well you certainly bounced back ,gordo

Debbie, is 50% partner, has been there(Mozambique) about 20 years, they do roughly 50 buffalo a year, do the maths and I am pretty sure they will add up. Gordon, I think the difference is when you compare hunting DG out of South Africa , 90% of woman PH'S wouldn't last a week.

TMS,

I prefer to judge PH's, as well as any professional, on their ethics and accomplishments.

Exaggerating numbers in an attempt to validate your position only calls in to question the veracity of your statement.

Your Statements:

Is she a partner whose company hunts 50 buffalo a year? If so how many does she actually hunt?

If she is hunting 50 buffalo a year as you claim, 50 buffalo at 7 days each would be 350 days of hunting each year for 20 years. She is a busy woman.

I do not know Debbie, but it is doubtful that very many PHs have successfully taken 500 buffalo with clients in an entire career.

Mike, she is a partner and does most of the guiding herself, with another full time ph, Cunat, but he left a few years ago. At Nyati they usually do more than 1 on 1. I have done hunts there where we have taken 8 buff a week and even 10 in 7 days.

I am by no means trying to exaggerate the number of buff she has hunted, as you quoted, I said I am guessing about 500, could be less, but dam sure I am close to the right number. And there is nothing wrong with her ethics, several times we have sat for 3-4 hours with a 1000 buffalo 40 yards from us, waiting for the right bull and right shot placement. She knows buffalo like the back of her hand, when I was hit by a wounded buff, she was right there, not like some of the men that went running.

I will still state I think men are better PH's on dangerous game, but there are exceptions, Debbie deserves the credit and I think most PH's and clients that have hunted with her will fully agree with me.

because???

Big game is mostly more physical than plains game....Brick, if phs told the truth about a lot of dangerous game hunts, it would be far different than the ones told in the pub, at times you physically have to hold a client, or he's going to bolt and get people hurt. Ask a ph, how many times on long walks after elephant or buffalo, he has ended up carrying the clients gun? Woman just aren't built to do it..if I wasn't suffering from malaria, I would give you the other 99 reasons...(just kidding, no malaria!!!).

That's what my point is TMS, PG down in Eastern Cape would be fine for most woman and not only because it's not include dangerous game but for the conditions is more easy.

The other most important thing is during transports, the main important thing as a PH is to always secure the client. With a blonde girl holding the steering wheel of the hunting bakkie in the night in remote areas where sometimes high jacking and roadblocks are common is not what I should feel comfortable with, for a black guy a white woman is in them mind a easy target...

I have never seen a PH carrying a clients gun.
Plenty of trackers carrying a clients gun though. I think the old days they were called "gun bearers". Is that why the gun bearers are all black men (indigenous) in the old photos? ;)

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
