Why no enthusiasm for Ruger MK11 actions

I have a few Rugers 2x375HH, 416R, 450R, 458Lott, 458WM plus a few smaller calibers. I think Ruger builds a solid rife. But they all need a little work, mostly polishing of the action feed rails, and some stone-ing (polishing) of the factory trigger. I find the stocks a bit "clubby" on the RSMs, but that's not the end of the world. In summation solid rifle, good value , just a little weak on some of the finer detai

Pat, That's a pretty fair description of most of their competition in the same price range. Perhaps the M70s have an edge in some areas but then I do love Rugers one piece bolt and great scope mounting system. In all as you described, nice solid rifles.

I wonder if the feeding issues have more to do with the cartridge than the action. I recall reading about the WSM cartridges having feeding problems. I have a 300 WSM that feeds OK but it’s certainly not as smooth as longer cartridges. I agree that it’s a quality issue that should have been sorted out before the Hawkey rifles were introduced. Certainly by now it should be fixed.
I can tell you exactly the problem mine was having. The back of the magazine box was slightly to wide allowing the butt of the shells to tilt back too far and stay below the bolt so it couldn’t be picked up.

Thanks. That could have been our problem too. If so, I can’t see why Ruger couldn’t fix it. Seems pretty straightforward.

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]

Out of all the different color variations of Impala the black Impala just stands out with its beautiful pitch black hide.

Impala is one of the animals you will see all over Africa.
You can see them in herds of a 100 plus together.

This excellent ram was taken with one of our previous client this past season.
