Why Buy A Blaser K95?

I had a few on and of.
In this Order:
9.4x74r
30R Blaser
308 Win
7x57R
6.5x57R

And regrettet selling then ever since. Especially the smaller calibre ones.

Now, to my 40th i did go all in an aqquired a octaconal. Strativari fluted 8x57irs and am willing to sell any other rifle and just be happy with it.

What was the recoil like in the 9.3x74r?

Let me say it lile this.
Theres a pattern in the list i went from the calibers.

Thisbriflr shines with medium to small bore calibers.
I consider myseöf to be okay with recoil.
But the 74r was the first riflr thst raised the urge to put in ear pro before shooting game.
It was the first rifle to take some real fokus to shot well (and it did shoot very well)
And the first rifle i was very happy after i mounted a heavy Schmidt and Bender PmII.

Though i would pick it again over a 30R (that was just plain nasty to me)

It defeats the purpouse of such a nice and handy rifle to make it havier just to be enjoyable.

But if its your only rifle and would really like to have a 74r for a few bigger critters. It is managle and a Stutzen 74r would be a fun little rifle.

I’ve always been somewhat intrigued by the looks of the Blaser K95, but until I got to handle one at SCI this year, I didn’t know how much I’d like them. Turns out I REALLY like them. And now I find myself talking myself into one. Not sure what caliber I’d start off with, but I’m thinking about a light caliber such as 7x57 or something similar, then adding a 9.3x74r in the future. For those of you who own one, what is your opinion?
@TOBY458
Best man to ask about the K95 is Ken @K95. He owns one and has a few barrels from 257 to 340 Weatherby including some metric calibres. He loves it. If I could afford one I would get one in a heartbeat.

I’ve long been a single shot fan: #1’s, Encores, Contenders…. But the K95 is an exquisite firearm. I handled one and almost drooled on it.
@meigsbucks
I had the privilege of handling @K95 lovely K95 and fell in love with it. Problem is like all blasers it's above my pay grade.
I still long for a nice browning 85 high wall in 25-06 and another in 35 Whelen but ain't going to happen either

Let me see now which caliber I want when Toby’s Gun Emporium opens up again! No let’s go for the 9.3 x 74 or a 9.3 x 62 please. I would enjoy buying either of those from you down the road.

Now Charlie…. You already stole a Merkel 470 from me. No need to try and rob me twice! lol!

I second Charlies thoughts

I am a preferred custom of the Emporium by virtue of that 470 purchase!

What was the recoil like in the 9.3x74r?
I have gone all-in on Blaser K95’s and R8’s.
The K95 bbls are .22 Hornet, .243 Win. with sights, octagonal.270 Win, 7x64R, .308 Win and 9.3x74R. I just put a recoil pad on the 9.3 and shoulder it “properly “ and the kick is quite tolerable. The R8’s are .308 Win, .300 WM and .375 H&H magnum. Two BD14’s and a R.I.S.E.SxS 9.3x74R. The 9.3 is more akin to a “push” rather than snappy like the .300 WM. If trying to give pistol analogies, the .357 Sig is “snappy”. The .45 ACP is a big push.
However, I have never found the .416 Rigby of .458 Win excessive. I would place them below 3 1/2 hi-brass 12 ga slugs. Things really don’t become(for me) unacceptable until the .460 Weatherby mag.
Over powered for the job and just too uncomfortable. No more Caprivi strip for me so no more .400+ ammo. Just an old guy giving the FL hogs a very bad bunch of days( as many as the good Lord lets me).

I love the German single shot rifles. When I was a young soldier, I saw an article in a hunting mag where the Merkel K1 was being used in the hunt. I vowed I would own one some day. Years later I am working for TKE and the Merkel importer in Alabama is right down the road from our factory. Long lunch break and I am the proud owner of a Merkel K3 in 30-06. Mama sees it and said she would love one if I could find one in a cartridge that doesn't kick so hard. That Christmas, she got a Merkel K1 in 7x57R.

Ruger, Merkel, Blaser, Krieghoff, Heym or Fanzoj, everyone needs an elegant single shot stalking rifle.

Here’s a great price on a Fanzoj DR

I sold my Fanzoj DR to a Friend, it’s still in my safe a year later. I regret selling it to him. I have dibs on it.

I’ve had both K3 and K5 Merkels and they are fine rifles. I prefer the Blaser
Since you have owned both, can you give a comparison of the two? I handled the Blasers and they did feel smoother to me. I am sure they shoot great.

The blasers just seem better made. Service is better. One of my BD14’s needed service and it was a snap. Merkel service seems to be a black hole.
The Blasers are light but seem more “ substantial “ if that makes sense. Accuracy with both was fine.
I really don’t think you can go wrong with either. They are both beautiful and well-made firearms. The service issue with Blaser is important to me. I would not have one of these worked on by my local gunsmith/AR parts assembler. you will be pleased with either brand. The barrel interchangeability in the Blaser line is amazing and it just works so darn well . R8 for bolt and K95 for singles.

Thank you. I used to go to Merkel USA quite a bit whenever I visited my old company's factory. Really nice people, but even they made jokes about Merkel's lack of service. They had a factory gunsmith onsite at the time. We have had our Merkels for about 16 years and have been very happy with them. However I tried to order an extra barrel and metal grip cap adornments (to replace the hideous plastic caps) in 2009 and have yet to hear back from them.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
