What kind of Open sights are best? What do you use?

An bolt shroud mounted (folding/removable) aperture sight is planned for my .404 build. I learned to shoot with a peep sight and it is faster and more accurate than the V notch open sight.

My Kreighoff .470 has a skeletonized see through rear sight that is really fantastic. It has a fiber optic front sight that I find to be a little large for accurate shooting. Always looking to find something better.

I’ve got the same setup on my 9.3x74R. Works well on running shots but benchrest sight it is not.

The M-16A1 and maybe the A2 had a flip over peep sight. The smaller hole provided great accuracy out to 600 yards on the man silohoutte target. I think it was the Baker or B target.

The peep could be flipped over to use the extra large "night sight". When the weapon was sighted using the night sight, one didn't even notice the aperature.

The human brain naturally centers concentric circles to include the front sight bead. A large aperature (hole) in a peep should provide acceptable accuracy out to 100 yards or further. Within 50 yards missing would not be caused by the sights.

Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
To much to political shit, to little Africa :-)
Spending a few years hunting out west then back to Africa!

I doubt you are interested in any trades but I was getting ready to list a Sauer 404 3 barrel set in the 10-12 price range if your interested. It has the 404J, 30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. Only the 30-06 had been shot and it has 7 rounds through it as I was working on breaking the barrel in. It also has both the synthetic thumbhole stock and somewhere between grade 3-5 non thumbhole stock
