What Happened to the 27 Nosler

Berger makes a 170 gr. hunting bullet, minimum twist 1-9 or faster. Good match for the 27 Nosler.
Absolutely, I run Bergers every chance I get.

I'm one of those guy that used a 270Win on a deer and had to track it for 40 yards. It left a bad taste in my mouth and have not picked up one in almost 30 years for that reason (1st and only time). Bullet was in the right spot, deer died fast, it just never sat well with me. Just one of those things that makes no sense to anyone else even myself.

My 2¢ I bet there will be a lot of heirs who are going to get stuck with guns not wanted. The market dwindles every day. Had a buddy with at least fifty of vintage, collectible Schutzens, and other blued steel, wood stocked classic rifles that went to auction for pennies on the dollar. A rifle he paid 10K a year earlier went for 3k. Have a bud who works two gun shops. Dad's guns come in on a regular basis and are bought for less than pennies on the dollar. Most of them sit because the new paradigm is black and plastic. Once the boomers are gone to their happy hunting grounds, and the market collapses for not only vintage firearms but all hunting rifles, I suspect the auction sites will be flooded with them at giveaway prices.
I hope to attend such auctions, and buy such deals. I just hope @rookhawk and his boys will leave some for me.

I've killed close to 30 elk with my 270 win (150g Partitions at 3000 fsp) only one I had to use a 2nd finishing shot and it dropped within 10 yards. Longest shot was 500 yards. Killed 9 bears with it t0o several of them charging. My favorite rifle

Just messing with you guys about the 270. It was my dad’s favorite round.

Come on the 270 will break eggs sometime.
Well, Bob's .25RSE (Rising Sun Express) or his 6.5 Samurai will even blow through watermelons.... sometimes?

@Flewis
Best way to sight ina rifle, with a cold clean or dirty barrel. That way you know your first shot is ALWAYS on the money. Game is not normally shot with a warm or hot barrel.
Bob
I shoot all mine with dirty barrels. After maybe 60 rounds or more, I MIGHT clean the barrels. This is for big game rifles. I almost never clean my shotgun barrels.

I don’t dislike any round, there are some i don’t care to use. Some of witch are may be the best rounds ever. Hunting is very personal and you should use a round that you are attached to. I ment which, the witch is dead.

Posted before but back in '14, my buddy killed 13 pg with his .270 Savage and GASP! 140 Bergers.. IIRC, all but one was DRT.

He must have shot all of them within 50 yards? If he had a Creedmoor, he could have shot them all at 500 yards? LOL

Boy did this thread digress.

I built a .35 Whelen and named it Bob. I like the gun but I still like my .270 Winchester more. I also like the .280 Ackley Improved. At the moment, I have plans to build 3 more rifles, a 270 Win, another 280 AI, and even another 35 Whelen. I'm building these extra guns because my son-in-laws are gobbling up my rifles.

On a separate note, I am falling in in love with the old .30-06. I'm fooling with a few of them now and that cartridge will go with me to Africa next. That and a .375HH.

It seems I'm having some first world "problems." Sorry

Yes I have one and a 243, please don’t tell anyone and PLEASE don’t tell Bob. He won’t help me out any more!
@Flewis
Frank owning a 243 and a need more manbun I will hep you out for as long as you need. Anyone that owns either one let alone both needs all the help they can get.

Firstly I can recommend a good psychologist to work thru the reasons you think those 2 are actually hunting cartridges.

This will be followed by masses of pictures of game wounded by these 2 calibes.

Finally a re education program educating you the benefits of a fast 25 and other useful cartridges even the 280AI, 30-06 and bigger.
Note I left out the 270 as a fast 25 will do all it does.
Bob

I just received this month's issue of the American Rifleman; and lo and behold, there was an advertisement for the new 7mm PRC. Here we go again... ;-)
Any mention of the .35 Creedmoor? LOL

@hunting Gold
Why for you get angry for what I said about the 270. My 25 does as much as it.
Give me a nice 280 or 280AI over a 270 any day. I used a 270 for a while and it left me very under whelmed. Yes it killed game and was very accurate, 0.3 inch 100yard groups with 110gn VMAX and 1.2 inch 200 yard groups with 130gr ACPs at 3,140fps. Just didn't enthuse me so it became a super accurate 35 Whelen. If you need a very good Savage 110 barrel in 270 give me a yell and it's yours for the postage.
Bob

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
