What did you reload today?

No loading today, but figuring out a shell holder for my Lee hand primer, to use for 6.5x54MS. They recommended the #12. And you have to trim the inside 'rim part' a little with a dremel cut-off wheel. Tricky, but I did it. Had to wear down a wheel to the right dia. and then have it positioned inside the shell holder before screwing it down to the dremel wheel shaft. Besides, the electricity was off for hours last night for some reason and there are no storms anywhere, although badly needed. No doubt due to a randomly falling tree

I didn't load anything but I did receive 2 bags of new, unprimed .280 Rem (not AI) brass from Grafs a couple of days ago. One of those reduced price deals where the brand name isn't identified.

"MAJOR US MFG BRASS 280 REMINGTON UNPRIMED 100/BG"

Well, it turns out the brass is stamped Nosler. Yeah, I think the cases should be fine and the price was right. :D

Stainless Ruger M77 Mk II in .280 Remington customized and tuned by Todd Johnson of Pearland, Texas. Action, barrel, and bottom metal have been vapor honed to a matte finish. Pillar bedded in factory synthetic stock. Bolt and extractor jeweled. Scope rings lapped. Bolt lugs lapped. Action polished. Extractor tuned. Trigger tuned and adjusted to 3.5 lb pull. Not too shabby for a poor boy, IMO.

Yeah, the ol' .280 Remington is not that common or popular but I think it makes a nice substitute for the 7x57 or 7x64.

Just my ramblings and musings... Cheers! Bob F. :)

Nice Ruger! And Todd did a great job.
I love those deals on the "major US mfg." brass they have. Almost got a bag of it in .30/06 yesterday evening. Probably will tonight when I finally decide my 'cart' is filled up, because I can never figure out what else I need to put in it, or if I'm forgetting something. Always the case.

The last few days I have been trimming and sizing 50-110 brass down to 475 Turnbull for a Ruger #1, I'll be taking it along with a 470 NE for range testing/ sighting & testing the double for regulation.

@Hagler.450Ex - For the 6.5x54MS I use RCBS 11 or 9 shellholders. Not sure if the RCBS will work in a LEE tool.

The Lee hand-prime shellholders are a bit different (more flat at the base), and Lee will hand-grind one of their #12's for free and send it out (very generous of them), but I didn't want to ask them, so just did it myself, it's not too hard, but a little tricky. I've never used a different priming system, always using the Lee hand-prime for everything. Except for large Nitro Expresses....that's a whole other technique I do, sort of like the old Lee Loader priming. Thanks! I will write down the RCBS ones for future reference.

I have used various types of hand primers but I keep going back to the press for repriming as that is part of my routine I'm use to doing.

The nice thing about Lee, RCBS, Lyman, and Hornady reloading equipment is their products interchange with each other unlike Dillon, Redding, and MEC reloading equipment that is company specific.

As for the shellholders for a hand priming tool between RCBS and Lee it would the first I know of that wouldn’t be interchangeable. It's not that they couldn't be interchangeable, it's just the first of so many items that normally are interchangeable.

Redding shellholders work in RCBS- at least the Rockchucker model.

Thanks for the info.

Do the Redding dies also work in Lee and RCBS presses? Without any modification/ additional collars or adapters.

I'm not sure of all the products but the ones that I have: RCBS Rockchucker, Pacific (later owned by Hornady) C press and Lee "scissors" press all take the same shellholder and dies thread size. I'm not sure of the thread but it seems to me that it's 7/8x14. Current RCBS, Hornady, Redding, Lyman and some smaller makers such as Wilson have standard threads on dies. the only ones that I'm aware of that are different are older Lyman 310 tong tools and the dies for really big cartridges- which on my Rockchucker are held by unscrewing the standard fitting for the 1 1/4" or something like that, threads.

Reloading my last bunch of 500gr Impala Brass solids for BASA shoot in my 458 Lott.
Will load some 270gr 375 Impala bullets as well for the 375 H&H for my son also shooting BASA later today or during the week shooting Saturday.

It's going to be fun.

BTW the odd looking funnel is my drop tube DIY funnel with an silicone tube nose added to the funnel.
Works great as the 458 Lott is basically 100% full with N540 and compacts the powder a bit better that just chucking it in meaning I feel no cruch at all just a prefect fit.

I just finished loading a box of 7mm-08 cartridges for the fast approaching deer season! 150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips over a near max charge of H380 give me half-inch 3-shot groups.
