Had a big reloading day yesterday but was not for hunting ammunition. My 22 year old son thinks ammunition is shared on a family basis and comes free, he's quite active with his pistol shooting. It was time to get the old Lee progressive 1000 press out. It had been a while, but once I had it set up with the 9mm shell plate, set the powder measure and adjusted the dies I got through some of my rather large 20+ year old inventory of primers, powder and bullet heads.
Those old Lee progressive presses can churn out some rounds, it was several hours later that I had 1,000 rounds of 115gn FMJ, I have about 700 115gn JHP bullet heads, it will be a good reloading experience for my son at the weekend, when he's back from university to put some effort in and learn how to use the progressive pistol press.
I'm guessing that my first Lee progressive press was purchased in 1986, I started with .38/.357 and added 9mm, .45 & .40. In general I do not reprime on the press, I feed in prime sized brass and remove the decapping pin on the resizing die. I found this gives me less issues and helps with reliable overall press performance.
If I didn't already own the brass, primers, bullets and powder I'm not sure it makes sense to reload 9mm practice ammunition these days, it looks like I can buy 1,000 rounds with free shipping for about $225. Even if I have the brass, bullets, primers and powder seem to add up to over $200!
