What did you reload today?

I didn't reload today; rather I started my first attempt at refinishing a stock (Remington Model 11). Still a fair amount of work to be done.

I would like to know your plan as well, as I am working on an Ithaca 37 that looks like that with an additional dose of heavy clear varnish.

A few 577 Snider for Monday or Tuesday, weather permitting

Just for giggles and grins: this morning, some 6.5 Carcano with 120 grain Ballistic Tips.

I have not made it to the range yet. I've felt lazy, it's colder than predicted, and football is on. :X3:
@Tundra Tiger
Interesting to see how the go as most Carcano have a 268 bore not a 264. They may rattle a bit like throwing a hot dog down a hallway. Just saying I may be wrong as usual.

That will look nice. What is your plan?
My plan is pretty simple. Taking off the old finish using orange CitriStrip and a nylon brush, then I'll steam out any dents with a wet wash cloth and a clothes iron, then begin sanding it with ever-finer grits of sandpaper (600 - 2,000), replace the recoil pad, hand rub some number of coats of Linspeed oil, then finally some Renaissance gun wax.

Ive been using linspeed for years. Give an absolutely beautiful finish but takes time. Well worth the effort.

Decided to redo my load development on the 6x45 (6mm - 223) as there are rumors that Alliant Rel X10 won’t be coming into SA anymore.

Using Somchem S335 I’m getting 2600 fps with the SBC .243 85g bullets.

Happy with the accuracy and loaded up 100.

Just finished up 20 CEB solids and 20 TSX for the 470NE to take to Zimbabwe with me next week for my tuskless and buffalo adventure.
Also will take my 416 Dakota just in case. May be able to chase hyena and eland if time permits.

I have a load question for you fine fellers. I have some loads I have worked up for this gun and caliber, but I am always interested in what others have done.

I have a tag for a winter caribou hunt. Terrain is fairly open, but I've had a lot of mid-range shots too. Caliber: .308; gun: a Savage 99E. Powders I have on hand? H335, LEVER, and Varget in abundance, and a handful of others in lesser amounts. Bullets? 150 Partitions, 165 Game Changers, 150 TTSXs, and maybe a few others. Because of where I live I can't just trundle down to the store for other powders.

Again, I have many other calibers (.264 WM, .338 ME, .300 WM, 7mm) suitable for long(ish) range if need be. But I'd really like to pop one with my 99. Any pet loads anyone is willing to share?

Note: it's not all THIS wide open, but this was the last winter caribou I killed, in the same hunt area. It's a little deceptive? There is a bluff and some rolling hills in the other direction. That's Bristol Bay back behind me.

@Tundra Tiger
46-47 gn of varget/ 2208 works well behind the 159 grainers in my sons 308 and less than moa @ 100.
Bob

@Bob Nelson 35Whelen ... thanks for sharing!

@FlyGuy ... I have a Barnes load manual somewhere... maybe I need to break it out and have a look. Thank you for sharing that. And I have a crap-ton of H335.
@Tundra Tiger
It's a pity you haven't got any CFE 223.
It really gives 150 grainers a set of balls. 50 grains of it gives my son over 2,900fps out of his 22" barrel 308.
@sgt_zim gets great results with it with 168s.
Bob

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.
