I know some of you on here are a little sceptical of motshwere safaris but as I've had some dealing with the man he seems very sincere and honest. I am extremely impressed with his hunting outfit as of yet and after I heard he killed the supposed new world record water buck I found my self doubting. I decided to log onto sci's online record books and have a look. Sure enough there was Werner Lewies. He was listed as #1 under the waterbuck category with the same picture that is on his face book page. So I can undoubtedly tell you guys as of mid last year this is the new #1 waterbuck on the books.

I did edit werner and the hunters faces out as not to offend anyone but I just can't bear not to share this picture. That waterbuck looks more like a watoosi! wow!

OMG!!! That thing is HUGE!!! I'm jealous!

Looks like a Watusi!

Insane! When was it taken Tony?

No matter how huge it is. I really think it is very ugly.
And I don't care about how much a trophy score anyway:)
I would rather have shot the old SCI record Waterbuck.

I have to say I agree, it is a very odd looking waterbuck. Not to my taste, but I may well have shot it just to get it out of the gene pool.

Definitely a different specimen.

Glad somebody stopped its suffering. It's neck must have hurt carrying all that around.

It was killed last summer. Werner said he told his hunter to shoot it and he refused as he already had a waterbuck on his wall. Werner told him he didn't have a choice as the waterbuck was that big. The hunter took a look and decided he was right so he shot it. I hear they have seen another similar one to this in the same area.

As for me the only reason I shoot waterbuck is because their horns have serious mass. If all waterbuck had the mass of that new world record I would be a waterbuck finatic. I love that thing. He's beautiful and that mass is insane. That would be my dream waterbuck! I saw the pictures last year but chalked it up as photoshop until I checked sci's official records and saw that same picture attached to the new #1 slot guided by werner lewies. I would go to some pretty insane lenghts to hunt a waterbuck with that kind of mass.

It is a very unusual looking animal, massive girth on the horns. Doesnt look all that long really but it is odd.

Wow that things huge looks like a Ankole-Watusi got crossed up with his mother.

And as far as being ugly I bet the guy that got it doesn't think so, if an ugly thing like that walked out in front of me would I shoot it? You Bet Grave Yard Dead!

Top heavy! Thats all I have to say about that.

Most definitly a big Waterbuck, looks a little weird though, would be interresting to know whether the bull had been able to reproduce and whether it had issues with it's scrotum and or testicles. The mass is crazy, I have seen this pic before have always just been intrigued by the look of it.

There was a monster buff shot a couple weeks earlier but had no Scrotum which would explain the horn growth and lack of Boss, not saying this is the case here but the fact that it does look freakishly weird could have something to do with it, compare the two bulls on the thread one is a regular huge specimen and the other new record is a bit freaky..

My best always.

Very strange, I don t really like it.

Compare this photo to this new record

I figure someone snuck and Ibex in to Africa and did some genetics work.
It is all the rage now. :)

he was just over 34" long. my best waterbuck was 30 1/2" and had nowhere near that mass. i would agree he is ugly. hes so ugly that hes beautiful in my books though.

I hunted the same concession last July, with
Werner. The fortunate hunter took this waterbuck
after I left. I wish I would have seen it on my
hunt! Truly an amazing animal!

I'm looking forward to hunting with "Motshwere Safaries" and Werner in 2014...I would love to see this Waterbuck's Offspring! or better yet, his Brother!

No Doubt, that is an Outstanding animal and truly a trophy of a life time!

A monster by all means. It looks like it's on stereoids. Would I Shoot it? Heck yes! every animal in the world isn't always perfectly normal. LIke people that's what makes the world go around!!

Loved the comment "Norwegianwoods"! Thanks for the good laugh!

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
