I just wanted to share a couple of pics of a couple of projects I have been working on for the past few weeks... The idea occurred to me when I was Google searching ideas for displaying warthog skulls without much inspiration. I have also always wanted a porcupine quill lamp.....Then these idea kinda came to me...

If they have been done before, I couldn't find it. Anyway, both came out pretty good, and I am pleased with the finished products.

I also came up with a double wall mount for a pair of Euro warthogs skulls using a piece of salvaged driftwood.

That is one of a kind. Well done.

Love that lamp! Going to have to do something similar!

did you make the lamp shade yourself or buy it already made? I ended up making one when I got back home versus buying one while I was in Africa, but my homemade one isnt quit up to snuff.

BW,

I cannot take credit for the lampshade.... I have been collecting quills, and thought about making my own, but it was easier to buy one. I bought it from www.africancraftsmarket.com for about $120. They had it here in about 10 days.

I also made this a couple of weeks ago, and meant to post it... I was going crazy trying to figure out a cool way to display or use warthog tusks. I have quite a stock pile (We love to shoot warthogs)... I got the idea from a winery in Napa that makes all kinds of cool items from old oak wine barrel staves. I bought the rough staves from them and took it from there... This came out really cool and was actually pretty easy to create.

Really nice idea. Did you fill the tusks with some kind of epoxy? And how did you secure the tusks?

I filled the tusks with 2-part epoxy modeling clay. After the epoxy hardens, I drill holes to fit 1/4" inch threaded anchor sleeves. I secure the sleeves with a bit more epoxy. Then I through-bolt it from the back side. It makes a very strong hold.

I made another one recently with a beautiful piece of red cedar I found.
