Looking for open top leather ammo pouch for 470 N.E. sized rounds. Something similar to the Murray leather C2 or C3. Would entertain leather or elastic loops. Would also possibly be interested in an ammo belt, however, it better be a pretty big one :LOL: . Let me know what you have, or if there is a particular brand you suggest. The Murray leather stuff looks good but I thought I would see what was out there before ordering some new ones.

When you finish getting input and still buy the Murray, you are going to be happy with it!
I kind of figured the Murray might be the way to go. I thought I would run it by the crew here and make sure though.

I am sure there are some others that are great also, but Murray has been great for me.

I use both leather and elastic and think elastic makes the most sense.

I dont use Murray... I made all of my leather ammo pouches myself...

But.. for me.. after making a few pouches with formed and stitched leather.. a few using a plastic insert.. and a few using elastic loops.. the elastic has been a best solution..

I just used a 7 cartridge slide pouch for my .308 and a 5 cartridge slide pouch for my .375 H&H in South Africa a couple of months ago.. Both use elastic loops similar to this Murray model.... (I actually used the pics of the Murray C3 as a guide for designing and building my own)..

They worked absolutely perfectly for our needs while we were there..

Awesome. I liked the idea of the elastic.but didn't know in "real world application" if it would hold up. I thought it would be a lot easier/faster to get the cartridges out. Plus probably more versatile. Should be able to use the same slide for a 416 Rigby and a 470 NE with the elastic wouldn't you think?

Big fan of Murray Leather Slides . with a Murray Leather Belt .. With the Slides if you have 2 guns on the truck you can easily change ammo slides when you grab a different gun...I have the elastic slides that I can use for multuble cartridges my 375H&H 400H&H and 458 Lott... I have leather slides for my 450NE and 505 Gibbs when using the Leather Slides I find myself loosening rounds before I make the final stalk

That was kind of.my thinking as well. With the slides on a separate belt you can use it just like you would a regular ammo belt, put it on over your other stuff, but it is mission configurable. While they arent cheap by any means you can get a couple different ones for different situations.
So if any body has some Murray leather ammo slides with elastic loops let me know. Or is suppose I will have to order me some. I was going to wait until tbe SCI and just buy them there but my safari is in June and I would like to have plenty of time to practice my reloads before then.

100% sure you can. I use the same one for 375 H&H, 416 Rem and 470NE, no issue at all. I am also sure my body will wear out before that elastic does.

I also have the slides, they work great, I just don't use them now that I have started to use the belt with the built in loops. Not a thing wrong with either, just set it up the way that works for you. F

That's great. Thanks for all the info, that was what I needed to know before I dropped the cash to pick some up. I already wasted $85 about a year ago on a galco. It is a great carrier but it has the button down flap. After talking to my PH he was like, "that is not what you want" ha ha. So I been using it for a little practice and it will be great for a PG hunt or to bring a little extra class to the deer blind. LOL

Another vote for Murray leather. I also have some that are closed top similar to what @mdwest is showing that were made by a local leather shop.

Dick Murray’s stuff is field tested by the most seasoned PHs in Africa. It’s a bit rustic, but it is absolutely top quality and function.

I’ve got 4 of the Murray leather cartridge holders - 2 for (270/30-06) and 2 for dg (375 and 404J). These worked great for me - I did spend a little time working cartridges in them and rubbing in a bit of oil to make sure they were snug but not tight. When I got them they were a bit too tight for my taste to get them out in a hurry. Just personal preference - I like leather over elastic but in all fairness the elastic will probably outlast me - just like other above mentioned

Don’t forget to check out Trader Keith’s belts and cartridge slides. He has some phenomenal leather pieces to choose from. These are very popular as well as very practical. If you can hang on without one for 3 more months then I’d highly recommend going to DSC in January and put all the aforementioned items in hand (NO GUESSWORK).

Curious if any one has any experience with this ammo slide from Westley Richards. Seem to be very well designed.

Good Morning x84958
I have read your post about Jamy Traut and your hunt in Caprivi. I am planning such a hunt for 2026, Oct with Jamy.
Just a question , because I will combine Caprivi and Panorama for PG, is the daily rate the same the week long, I mean the one for Caprivi or when in Panorama it will be a PG rate ?
thank you and congrats for your story.
Best regards
Philippe from France

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
