I am in the market for 40 caliber bolt action rifle in a LH model. I’m open to a 404 Jeffery, 416 Remington or 416 Rigby. Would prefer a Winchester M70 but would entertain other CRF rifles. I have been checking gunbroker and guns international on a regular basis. No luck so far. If anybody has one that they might be interested in selling or if anybody knows of one for sale I’d appreciate the info. Thanks everybody.

I suffer from the same affliction of being left handed. Those type of rifles can be difficult to find. Don’t forget about the Gun Library at Cabela’s. That’s where I found my LH .416 Rem Mag in a Dakota.

Yeah, unfortunately to find a CRF left handed rifle in a dangerous game caliber may cost a bit more. There’s just not that much supply. I paid $5200 for my Dakota.

A butt ugly stock and not exactly cheap, but seller says he's willing to deal. Some extras included too.

Montana Alaskan 404 Jeffrey Left hand Stainless

Yeah, all Dakotas are nice rifles. But the model 97s have Remington-style recoil lug. Which means that it’s much thinner and not as beefy as the model 76s. Right now the price is really not that much different than a 76 either. Maybe another $500-$800 for a model 76.

Appreciate the replies gentlemen. I liked at that 404 Jeffery and thought the cost of getting a new stock for it would make the overall cost of the project a bit too much for my current budget.

Good call, he also painted the barrel on that one. Has been for sale a long time. I’m in the correct hand club myself. It takes awhile but keep at it and be ready. Don’t be afraid of the earlier montanas. My 416 rem action is smooth as butter I just don’t like the bolt release they did but I’m a M70 guy. If you can find an early Dakota they are worth it

I have a Remington LH 700 in 416. But of course that’s push feed. It was a custom shop model. Never was impressed with the custom shop work but I picked it up at a pretty good price.

Zastava is one of the rifle manufacturers that seems to make quite a few LH rifles but I don't think they make any in 416 caliber but they do make one in 458 Win Mag . They not bad quality , a bit rough but good shooters ( Nothing that a bit of gun smithing wont sort out like the CZs ) . The only other downside is perhaps their weight , they are a bit light .

There a a couple of left handed push feeds that I’ve found. I’m gonna keep looking for a CRF.

I’ve looked at it and spoke with the owner. Not a CRF. I’ve been considering it but I’m really hoping to find a CRF rifle.

There's a couple of lefthanded Rugers in 375 Ruger on GB. Easily rebarreled to 416 Ruger. Similar to the 416 Rem, only better.

Not sure what it takes to re-barrel a rifle. Is this something most gunsmiths would be able to do fairly easily? Would this action work? How difficult would it be to find the barrel. Sorry for so many questions but I’m a newbie when it comes to the big bore rifles. Thanks

The 416 Ruger is simply the 375 Ruger necked up to 416, so the action, magazine, etc are the same. Order a barrel from Pac-Nor or Krieger (could take 6-8 months) and most any decent gunsmith can change out the barrels. You can also send your rifle to Pac-Nor and they will do it all. The GS will also add iron sights, barrel band or whatever you want. Also, blue or cerakote everything to match.

Pac-Nor order form: https://pac-nor.com/barrel-order-form/
