I took the 38” buff in my avatar at the BVC in ‘13.I have no connection to the Bubye Valley Conservancy https://www.bubyevalleyconservation.com.
But if I were going buffalo hunting tomorrow- I'd consider one of the PH's operating on the BVC (southern Zimbabwe). You can find info by searching the web or looking at the Mazunga Safaris site. http://www.mazungasafaris.com
Don’t get caught up in size. As others here have said, savor the hunt.
I dreamed of a buff since I was 15 years old. I wanted a great hunt with a mature heavy bossed bull without broken horns that would be a good trophy. I told my PH what I was looking for. He said we could easily do that. We looked at a few bulls but on day four, found “THE ONE”.
I hope to hunt buff again and if I do, my parameters will be the same. If it’s 36”, fine. Over 40”: great.
20 years from now, you’re going to look up at that head on the wall and think about following the tracks, watching the trackers work, the smell of the dung, the adrenaline rush of the the sticks going up and the PH telling you: “on the shoulder”, the view of your crosshairs on the shoulder, the bull’s death bellow and walking up to that monster on the ground. Not the inches.
