US Travel Bans/Restrictions South Africa

I'm still planning to head over on 24 April for a hunt in Limpopo. On my third set of airline tickets - first was Qatar (who don't fly direct to JNB from ATL now), then direct on DL (who aren't flying direct to JNB until later this year), and now back on Qatar via DFW. My current ticket is $1500 more than my first two (I'm a princess and am in the front of the bus).

I haven't done my 4457 yet but that's on the docket for the next few weeks. Using Riflepermits. I have filled out my SAPS520 but haven't signed it yet.

Plan to do local COVID test the day before I depart and apparently there is a testing site in Limpopo that will only steal a half day of my hunt and cost US$100. I'm hoping that the vaccines will be more widely available towards the end of March and will get the two doses the first chance I have.

I'm going to keep moving forward as if this hunt is going to happen until I run out of options/alternatives.

@Goose Cracker
Great to hear. I am set to head to RSA on 26 March for 2 weeks. All set here, as of today. My flights have changed almost every other day. Get my Moderna booster shot tomorrow. Test before departure and outfitter has made arrangements for test day prior to leaving.

Good luck on your trip.

Might want to do your COVID test more than one day before leaving. You need a PCR test and it can take more than 24 hours. Covid Consultants does them in 24 hours from when RECEIVED, which is the morning after you take it and Priority Overnight with FedEx. Maybe you have found something faster and local for a PCR test?

Fair point. There are a few local spots in Atlanta area that say they'll get you results in 24 hrs. I'll pick a place with time to spare before I depart. Hoping by later April things will be calmed a bit.

Don't mean to derail the thread btw guys, I'll shut up about C-130s loaded to the hilt with drunk hunters!!
That would have to be more relaxing than my C-130 experiences. Count me in!

With a 72 hour window, I’m doing the Covid Consultants test and a local test 70 hours before my flight departs. I figure that at least one of them will have results to me in 70 hours.

That’s my plan also. I have talked to Covid Consultants and will send them a test and have found a Lab in Sugarland that will do it also. That way one of them for sure should get me the results in time.

@Mark Biggerstaff
Who does the test to send to Covid Consultants...Your GP, Doc-Ina-Box, maybe Travel Health?

Just asked them this morning her eis their response

Does the SA regulations say anything about who has to administer the test or are we just assuming?

Travellers intending to visit the country will be expected to produce a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test that is not older than 72 hours from the time of departure from the country of origin to South Africa. This test must be conducted by a certified medical practitioner and should have the name and signature of the practitioner who conducted such test.-------Taken from https://www.gov.za/covid-19/individuals-and-households/travel-coronavirus-covid-19#

I see that the newest regulation says it must be conducted by an accredited lab. Earlier regulation said conducted by a certified medical practitioner.

Yes but the newest regulations from December 2020 are amended to say lab. Look lower down the page in the regulations.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
