Update from DSC annual meeting

As I said in my previous post, and here is my quote' I cannot say what the DSC President Elect meant by the quote he dropped in my office, I can only tell you what he said." And what he said was "We will continue to do some conservation work, but we are going to get back to what this club was created to be in the first place, a Hunting Club."
I am quite certain he wishes he had said it differently now! Perhaps he meant it to come out differently. Maybe he did not think at the time it would sound as damming as it was taken. And I am well beyond positive he regrets saying it not only in front of myself, but both of my partners and an employ.

As someone who worked tirelessly for 20 years at DSC, including two terms as a DSC Foundation Director, meaningful conservation grants were always my top priority, I truly hope DSC will indeed continue that mission. And I say that will all honesty, backed by my personal word, which I value beyond all else.
Certainly we have all say things we would like to have a do-over on, I know I have.

But despite what was expressed by the President Elect to AH member TSF at the AGM, what I reported in my initial post WAS said... and I stated it was presented. The question that should be debated is " Did he mean it as literal, or was he trying to indicate his defense or support of the OHAA as its President?

I will now turn my attention to my current responsibilities and exciting possibilities regarding International Hunting and Conservation with SCI.

DSC is in my rearview.

Regards

Dave Fulson

I appreciate the work you did for DSC and hope you do equally good work for SCI.

But if DSC is in your rear view maybe stop rehashing what was or wasn’t said or what was meant by it. DSC will succeed or fail based on what they do next. As a hunting community we don’t need to tear each other down continually.

You’ve shared your experience and it is very concerning to anyone who supports DSC. Now let’s see what they do next and how the string plays out.

Focusing on the past is never a winning strategy for anyone.

Thank you for this summary. I hope the new CEO finds a path forward where they can be successful. It may be a few lean years until they can get out of Atlanta but I hope they can survive it.

If DSC just wants to be a “hunting club” with little involvement in conservation why would someone like me join? I live 800 miles from Dallas. The sole reason I joined was their conservation initiatives. I don’t know how many other members like me are out there so it may be no big loss if we quit supporting DSC.

As for now I will keep an eye on the progress but will seriously reconsider where my conservation dollars go when my membership comes up for renewal.

At the very least. The name needs to be changed. Dallas needs to be removed.

Perhaps the Traveling Hunting Show Wilburys

The mere mention of Atlanta in the same sentence as Dallas is an abomination
I understand that was discussed as "Dallas" was too regional.

I joined DSC because the of Dallas Ecological Foundation (Which is now Outdoors Tomorrow Foundation) to try to get their program in my daughters schools. I understand the DSC sent them out the door, but they give them grant money. I was upset at the time, now they are bigger and stronger then when DSC housed them.

Wow, to think this all might have started because some leaders and a lobbyist wanted to get rid of the OHAA award and other leaders did not!?! Political correctness in a hunting organization on one side and the old species collector guard on the other. Then personalities and egos talking past one another and couldn’t solve their differences. Tit for tat including firing of the marketing firm just before the convention marketing campaign started and then mass resignations on the other side. It’s a wonder that some of these people have successful business backgrounds! Aren’t we all supposed to put away stupid differences and fight the anti-hunters and conserve what’s left of Africa wildlife and wild areas? Folks, this shouldn’t be so difficult!

As for the awards, DSC could have both conservation awards and hunting accomplishment awards. Get over it. Reminds me of when the Colorado Outfitters Association stopped the “Best of Species” awards after the Cecil the Lion controversy. Ridiculous as we are hunters! Stand proud and explain why we hunt!

On the other hand, I have hunted Africa on over a dozen safaris plus lots of other places. I probably have more than 100 species but have never counted. I have never entered a single animal in the SCI Awards or categories. When I was a member of DSC, I didn’t enter any animals there either. If you hunt and kill one of everything just to get awards, you might consider why you hunt! Admittedly, I have entered a few animals in B&C but have others that qualify that I have not. Not a big priority for me. I did enter my Grand Slam of sheep with GSCO and WSF but haven’t entered any of my latest sheep.

Can’t we all just get along? Reminds me of Reagan saying (paraphrasing) someone who agrees with 80% of what he did is still an ally. For too many people these days it’s “all or nothing.”
If you think about it, DSC exists in large measure because people couldn't put away stupid differences.

Good luck to you. I can understand and appreciate your frustration after all your work. However, the stance taken by many against the OHAA in an effort to show more of a conservation emphasis to the public at large and politicians has led to even less conservation now. Quite ironic.

A big thank you to @Texas Sharpshooter Fallacy for the update. I am an optimist in general. I think most DSC members would agree with me when I say I could care less about "who said this" and mistakes made in the past. Unless you are going to let this define who you are past, present and future. Let it go and let's move forward. What are you going to do now? I have zero patience for those that approach accusations and mistakes by "lying, denying and making counter accusations". Fix the issues. Make a performance plan, communicate it in a timely manner and crush the past mistakes with good actions. Or do nothing and we will know you by your deeds.

Safe hunting

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
