UGANDA: 2023 With JKO HUNTING SAFARIS

Wow...cliffhanger ending with the big boy. 33"...geez. Congrats! It's just another reminder that as hunters we NEVER give up until the last moments are done. I've had several last minute scenarios turn out like that. Good job!

Day 8 - 1/2 day hunting for Waterbuck then onto airport

Well no fresh news overnight or this morning about the buffalo. So we make a plan to back and look for that big waterbuck. We scour the hills for where we last saw him a few days ago for a few hours with no luck. We make it up to a high vantage point where you can see 3 different valleys, no luck.

So we drive around a few of the blocks, and take some of the inroads between the blocks, still no luck. We decide to head one more block over on the way back in for lunch, and I was able to spot what looked like a good bull from my side of the truck. We stopped to get eyes on him, and sure enough it was him! We ease our way out of the truck and stalk into position, get to about 50 yards and he presents a good broadside shot. Squeeze...it's s good hit and we see him run about 10 yards and collapse!

This waterbuck was bigger(body and horns) than i ever could have dreamed of!

Final tale of the tape is 33'!!!!! Wow, what an East African Defassa bull and what an ending to an epic hunt! On back to camp for lunch, shower, and packing for the journey home.

Hopefully with some news about your buffalo!

Congratulations on some fine animals!

We have truly enjoyed our hunting experience with @JKO HUNTING SAFARIS when we went. Jaques always tries to put you the best in the area. Looks like he did another excellent job for your adventure too!

Thanks for taking the time to write about and share it with us.

Wonderful waterbuck. Sort to hear about your buffalo. Hopefully some good news coming about him.

Wow!! Great waterbuck!

That is a waterbuck for the ages!

It may be too late and you have departed, but offering a reward for the buffalo might help.

Thank you sir! Alwyas nice to end on not only a high note, but cloud 9!

Time to head to the airport after lunch, about a 4.5-5 hour drive. Midnight flight and getting to airport 3 hours early just in case, along with allowing some extra time on the roads for (TIA), we leave about 2 pm.

Still no call or updates from the rangers about the buffalo. We will hope for the best in the coming days with buzzard sightings, to at least get the skull.

Here are a few more pics from along the way, bushbuck acting like goats. We saw this daily!

A few more from around the lake, including the fisherman you would see daily

I just can’t get over that freaking impala. Thanks for posting your report and photos!

Really great report and some great trophies. Too bad on the buffalo. You said you rented a 375 and 30-06. What were the make/model rifles and scopes?

The impala are monsters As well as the waterbuck. Great hunt, even if you don’t hear back about the buff.

Heck of a waterbuck Charles…..Congratulations

Sorry about the buff. I’m sure he was a dandy one too. I do not envy you in that situation so close to the park. However, it looks like the rest of your trip was a home run, so congratulations.

Rowland ward minimum for East African Impala is 26 inches. Congratulations on knocking those impalas out of the park (there’s a pesky sports metaphor again). The waterbuck is stellar, but really they are all awesome.

Also, your sunset pictures make me want to hop on a plane.

I’ve always wanted to hunt Uganda. Excellent report and hunt!

I’m very sorry about the buffalo. It is very difficult to anchor one no matter how well they are hit. I hope you are able to recover the skull.

Sorry about your buff, crossing finger that they find it and get info to Jacques. The impala and waterbuck are awesome! The memory of the beauty and adventure will be with you always.

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...
Behind the scenes of taking that perfect picture.....

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
