Turkey Hunting Season 2021

Got him 2 days ago. Came in totally silent to my decoy, was strutting his tail off though. Even with TSS I'm limited to about 35 yards with the Blaser because of the fixed choke but that was plenty. 1" spurs. Smoked a delicious breast after I brined overnight.View attachment 398894View attachment 398896

That actually makes wild turkey look edible!

I went yesterday and the birds flew down on the neighboring property and walked the opposite way. My day was over at 6am - no other action for 7 hours. I hate these damn birds

I just got my 5th and final bird in Alabama this season on Sunday! I made some Turkey Pad Thai to celebrate. I am glad to see that everyone else out there is doing well this season.

I spent 3 days hunting Turkey in Georgia near the South East coast. No sign, no calls and no tracks. This picture is as close as I came to a bird. But a bad day of hunting was better than anything else I could have been doing. Still had a good time being outdoors and on the hunt.

I hope you bought this glorious painting

here,s my favorite turkey hunting photo, taken after a four day hard hunt that had me thinking i was after a demonic bird. i ran into him and a hen at one of the places he strutted for the ladies, i took a long loop and came down from above them and as soon as i saw movement between the brush and trees i sat up. a few chirps and the hen came running with the old boy in tow, it was a 37 yard shot and he when down hard.

My season opens tomorrow and the bow is ready to go. For me, you can’t buy any turkey that compares to a properly smoked wild turkey. Good stuff!

Try a sous vide you can make perfect lunch meat with it that way and it’s about the easiest process ever

We had a great season so far in MO and especially in Iowa!
Lots of big bird and a fun camp. Here are some of the birds.

Called this bird in for my friend this morning. We knew the birds were close when we sat down, might have been 5min from us setting up to pulling the trigger. 19.73lb 9.5" beard 3/4" spurs. Now to focus on the big guys!

My third and final bird for the year. Shannon still needs one and a few more friends to help with theirs. Now I can start seriously looking for flights to the Eastern Cape.

Wednesday the 21st. Hunted 2 hours and went back to the house for breakfast. After putting my camo back on, I walked out the back door and there he stood 40 feet away.

It's better to be lucky than good...

Short story. Have a close friend that is a military retiree as well but does not partake in hunting. His 10 year old son asked if it would be possible to just come sit with me and possibly see a turkey in the wild. After getting the nod from his ma/dad we lined up a day.
Well this evening was the day and I decided to take out the popup blind so he could move freely and feel a bit more comfortable.
On the ride out we had the discussion about how hunting isn't measured by success but rather enjoying your time outdoors and if an opportunity presents itself to just see your quarry that is a successful day to a true outdoorsman.
I choose to take him to the river bottoms as I knew he would have an opportunity to see and hear the group's of hens interacting with each other.
We were ready and in the blind by 3. By 330 he was absolutely floored to see 5 hens come within 10 feet of the blind. Successful trip in both our eyes!
Shortly there after a Cardinal landed on a branch and as we looked at his colors. The young hunter stated his ma always said Cardinals were good luck. Never heard of this but agreed perhaps it's true.
Not 2 minutes later, directly behind this dang Cardinal out walks a longbeard. I was in shock!
He pointed and asked if that bird was old enough to kill and I grinned and told him well done. It was indeed a good bird to take.
40 yard shot and it was OUR bird. One I know neither him nor I will forget.
A hunter is born everyday and today was no exception....

Nugget here. A guide gave me the nickname as I looked similar to Nugent at the time. Hunting for over 50 years yet I am new to hunting in another country and its inherent game species. I plan to do archery. I have not yet ruled out the long iron as a tag-along for a stalk. I am still deciding on a short list of game. Not a marksman but better than average with powder and string.
