Thanks very much. I’m glad you saw it. DSC has the We Hunt For Life ad campaign and I am very grateful to be a part of it. It is a great outreach tool. I put many of my hunt pics on the #wehuntforlife contest on Instagram. Check them out! (I didn’t win but that’s ok)

South Africa was where the croc hunt in Trophy was seen.
People ask me if that’s how my croc hunt was. I fall out laughing when someone asks that. My croc was one of the hardest hunts for me and in wild Zimbabwe. We were even run off our baits by antihunting activists! Long story....

I would like to say that I commend Philip for being willing to put himself in the line of fire. He chose to share his passion for hunting and to open up his private life to be a face and a name and a voice for all of us. I for one know it is not easy to put yourself out to be in the public eye and to receive the harshest criticism, attacks, death threats and read the horrible personal things that people you don't even know will say about you and your family.

He shared his hunting experience with the world in hopes that he could help show hunting in a better light and open up the conversation with those who are not extremists but those willing to listen and learn and be open to our experience. I hate that he is being nitpicked as he is opening himself up for the greater good for all of us. The focus should be on the broader message...that hunting and conservation are inextricably linked because when you give animals a value then you create an environment where they are more likely to survive and thrive.

I know Philip personally for a few years now, he is a good person, a thoughtful experienced hunter and a dedicated conservationist and family man and I thank him for doing this. I believe that intention is everything and Philip's intention was to participate in this project for only good reasons at his own personal expense in every sense of the word.

His effort is a great start and a positive one! The more voices and organizations that we have that are willing to stand up to the noise from the faceless internet bullies who don't even know what the grass feels like beneath their feet for our way of life the better off we will all be.

Very cool. I’ve been invited to speak to a group at Colorado State Univ. And hope to do so elsewhere if I can be of use to such a great discussion.

That is not the point. Who cares whether you would hunt deer over bait where it is legal. The bigger picture is disparaging other hunters. I'm sure you could find some flint-spear chucking hunter who could find something about the way you hunt to put down as "unethical." I've got a buddy who thinks anything other than fishing with a fly rod (spinning rod, live bait, soft plastic lures, etc.) is akin to tossing a stick of dynamite in the water and letting the fish float up to the top. Why not stand for hunters instead of tearing them down? I didn't see you on national TV putting it out their for the hunting community. Yet all you can say is shame on him for letting his kid legally shoot a deer off a feeder?
Would you shoot a leopard over bait? Would you shoot a lion over bait?

Hunting out of a blind is fine. Hunting under the feeder is what I have the issue with. This is not a personal attack on you. Do not take it as such. This is my opinion. Do whatever you want if it is legal in your state.

And no I would not hunt a lion or leopard or any other animal over bait.

How many DG hunts have you undertaken? Just wondering what your experience is because you will never get a big cat without bait and or dogs. It’s that simple. It would be nice if we could all look at other peoples experiences and have a decent discussion instead of trying to be critical of other people’s hunting methods.
I end the “what’s sporting” debate by saying “if you didn’t kill it while hunting naked with a spear then it’s not sporting”

Thank you Philip for being willing to participate in this film. I was somewhat surprised to see hunters portrayed in a reasonable way considering CNN aired this film. In my opinion Philip is a credit to hunters everywhere. You are a thoughtful

I stalk, I hunt out of blinds, I still hunt, I hunt over food plots, I hunt over bait , I hunt out of trees and I hunt on the ground.
I think all hunters should take a second look at the croc killing in the tiny pond.
That is not hunting , that is killing and may well be an example of the worst practice in our sport. I feel sorry for those people because they do not have any respect for the animal nor a clue about what hunting really is all about.
Philip knows.

I fully agree with you that it was the responsibility of the PH. However, before condemning that PH I'd want more info. In that was this a one time error of judgement on his part or is this a systematic problem with him. I know with the conservation model of hunting you want to ideally take old males that are past their prime (breeding), while in the video that was a young elephant. Now if that particular PH is frequently telling his clients to indiscriminately shoot young or old animals- just so long as they shoot something to keep up his success rate- then that is definitely behaviour that should be condemned. But if he just made an error of judgement that one time then hey he's human to id definitely be incline to cut him some slack.

Same thing with why it took the elephant so long to die- if he misjudged it and thought that one shot was adequate and it wasn't is very different than if he is consistently wounding animals and letting them suffer. There was that one guide who kept deliberately wounding cape buffalo and other animals and then provoking charges- I think Mark Sullivan or something was his name. That is very different from a one on wrong call or botched kill. The later I would imagine has happened to everyone...

The Final shot should have been a brain shot, not a chest shot; not that I am an expert of elephant hunting. But I was not there, and can only see what was shown in the film, which was subject to editing. My point was Mr Glass is taking a lot of heat on another board over that shot, he should not be, the PH & the Outfitter ARU should be taking that heat, not Mr. Glass. I know of several folks that are going to address that issue with ARU at SCI and the outfitter of the Croc hunt too.

First of all the elephant was for the village and matters not what kind of elephant it was. There was some kind of festival and had to have meat within a few days. The best is an old broken tusk animal second choice is a young bull kinda like a Texas spike buck. So that was the best choice at that time. The rest of what you are worried about is all movie magic. That elephant made one small sound and died! It did NOT make all that sad drawn out noise and it did not take but a minute. This is in my estimation the only part of the film that was manipulated. So please do not pass judgement on the PH who is one of THE best I know of.
