Correction: This outfit wouldn't take my cheque (out of state). I had to use my credit card. When the gal handed me the slip to sign, she marked the X on the line for gratuity to add. I'm sure it was a mistake! Pfft! University Vet Hospital in St Paul always takes my cheques on Montana bank but they couldn't fit her in for surgery in time.Looking at my little French Britt sleeping at my feet. Three years ago I had to rush her seven hours to Minneapolis in the worst storm of the century (4' of snow in three days!). She had a tumor the size of a softball next to her liver that was obstructing breathing and heart rate. Just the month before she'd been hunting hard for six weeks in Montana. "Puppy" simply crashed one morning. They asked me if I was willing to pay for surgery on an eleven year-old dog to remove a giant ball of cancer. "The long term prognosis is not great." How much "long term" can I expect with an eleven year-old dog? I didn't bat an eye. The bill was $12K. Poor little fart barely made it. She finally started to eat a bit of canned chicken the last day. They wanted to hang onto her longer but I said no. I think separation anxiety was killing her. At checkout I asked if they could throw in a can of chicken so we could get on the road. "No, we have already made up the bill." "Are you f**ing kidding me? I am writing you a gawdam check for twelve thousand dollars (US!!) and you can't give us a can of chicken for this poor little dog!" And I DID not say it quietly! Everyone in the lobby could hear me. As we were heading across the parking lot a young black college intern came running after us with a couple cans of chicken. "Man, that sucks. I'm so sorry."
Last season my Lab came up lame again and little Puppy had to step up to the plate again (Ellie tore her right ACL during 2023 season). Little stinker hunted like a dog half her thirteen years. And there's every indication she may have one more season ahead at age fourteen. FINALLY those dogs saw a good year for birds like what Puppy knew her first three hunting seasons. Shot close to fifty uplands.

Yes it was pneumonia. He’s comfortable now and really happy to be home but he still has a ways to go.
I will say this, that hospital was crazy! Just like if not better than human hospitals! All the kennels and runs had all the computerized monitors, they all had cameras and there was a huge bank of large screen tv’s so they were always watched. They had both X-Ray and CT scan rooms, multiple operating rooms that looked really advanced, as well as a pretty big staff that included Doctors, Nurses, and techs.
So I guess someone has to pay for all that.
Seriously this hospital was more advanced than some hospitals I’ve been in lol
Thank you Lone Star for keeping him in you thoughts! It means a lot! Everyone here has been so kind as always and it helped for me to talk about it when I was so worried
Good news! Keep us in the loop.

So Charlie is doing a little better today I think? His breathing seems to be good and he’s comfortable but he just had a panic so yeah not sure.Wondering what kind of rehab will be in order for Charlie besides the obvious antibiotics?
So I took your advice. I made a little white rice, mixed a little bone broth in it with some canned chicken and he ate 2/3rds of a small plate!it’s always scary when they are not eating… Maybe some bone broth or similar broth over rice. Boiled chicken shredded.

Not very much but it’s progress
