@MISportsmanI'm thinking about giving my son my mid 90s pushfeed Winchester m70 with detachable magazine and upgrading my ’06. If I do I'd be want to spend up to $1200 and I want something that's pretty weather resistant with an internal magazine with floorplate and a 1:10 twist. I'm looking real close at the wetherby vanguard. What are your thoughts/opinions?
@MISportsman Might lose 100fps compared to a 24"tube but in reality that doesn't make much difference in the field.I'm sorry I haven't been on line in a wile. I have found another model I am looking very closely at. It is the new CZ 600. It looks very impressive, but it comes with a 20" Barrel... How would the '06 preform with a 20" barrel???
Very true. Had one in 300 WM. Accurate, mild recoil. Took a cow elk with it. Heavier rifle but it helped being a magnum. Very good quality. Would buy again.@MISportsman
Nought wrong with the Weatherby vanguard mate. It's made at the same factory as the Howa. Just an upgraded version of the Howa with a Weatherby stock. Usually very accurate straight out of the box.

Having 2 Vanguards I can say that they are hard to beat and can be found very reasonably especially in 06I'm thinking about giving my son my mid 90s pushfeed Winchester m70 with detachable magazine and upgrading my ’06. After a ton of looking and thinking I settled on exactly this. Tikka 30-06 for less that $1k and out more money into some optics. If I decide to throw it in an upgraded stock later there are plenty of options. It pains me to admit it, but the Tikka rifles are almost impossible to match from a cost/performance standpoint. I’ve bore scoped several and seen about a dozen in the real world. All were consistently sub MOA with zero mechanical issues. Bedding was later added that made them even better.
I’m a Model 70 guy…and I’m looking at buying another one…but I’m about to buy a Tikka in 30-06 just as a universal second gun that I can always rely on.
Additionally, the Browning X Bolt 2 is as close as I’ve ever seen to a custom quality performance rifle from a factory. They really did a great job on them.
