The 404 Jeffery history and related information

I have generally found that anything either designed by or is stamped Jeffery is superb.....

333 Jeff, 400 Jeff(450/400 3" NE, 404 Jeff, 500 Jeff and so on......

Very interesting and enlightening. I had a 404 Jeffery ordered from MRC til they went out of business. I have dies, brass, projectiles and 100 rounds loaded. Now I need to find a bolt gun to put them in. HELP!!. My budget is around US 2000.00.

Another one bites the dust. I put in a call to CZ last week about building a 404 Jeffery and got a call back a few minutes ago. They are not building any more. The guy I talked to said the owner of Triple River has had a downturn in his health and is closing up shop and there is no one to replace him. He said anyone looking at CZ or Triple River will have to go elsewhere to get a rifle built.

I just put a deposit on a cz550 in 404jeff. It may be unfired, its from a collection. It was in your price range!

Bignut, splendid, just splendid gentleman, now you are in very good company...welcome to the holy grail of dangerous game caliber hunting rifles also known as the "one rifle " for every specie...if you are a competent shot you will even be able to hunt Egyptian gees with it..so versatile this 404 Jeffery are...(y)

If it was not fired..see if you can polish the inside of the action rails ...knowledgeable members on the forum pointed out you have to work somewhat on the action of the CZ to get it into Dangerous Game hunting requirements in the feeding/cycling apartment...

Look around on the rifle auctions...if you can buy a rifle build on a ZKK 602 action and re-barrel it converting it to a 404 Jeffery by a competent gunsmith you might even do it for less than $2000

Damn carona is putting a crimp on bringing it home sooner. As soon as I have it home I'll get her prepped for DG and try hunting dragon flies with it!

Be sure to choose your loads carefully for the dragon flies...we do not want the bullets to disintegrate with the 2700 f/s you want to shoot at them for good penetration...:LOL::LOL: You are a very , very fortunate person to receive a 404 Jeffery for the first time in your life ..it is just a great feeling ...(y)(y)(y)

Hi All .
I have been following this thread and it is obvious there are a few 404 Jeffery fans present so I thought I would share something that some of you might appreciate.
Unfortunately I do not have a .404 Jeffery in my collection but a friend of mine does and I thought I would share some photos ( if I can manage to post them ) and information about his rifle .

The rifle is a genuine Type A Mauser single square bridge and seems to be about 80 years old . In some of the photos it is side by side with a Ruger M77 .416 Rigby just for comparison .
This rifle belonged to an old Kenyan Game ranger and my friend bought it off his son in South Africa for a song , a once in a life time deal .

Sad that his son did not want it. Tough to see a gun with that kind of history leave the family.
@WAB, Have a friend that is a long time FFL holder but is also an estate appraiser. He has told me many stories about receiving calls from families in which the elder had passed away, and they requested my friend to come and value his gun collection and sell it for them. In many cases the man that died had sons, but they had no interest in the gun collection. These collections would nearly always go to a buyer in Texas. Many of the times they would include whole groups of Purdys and in recent years would go to Gordy's in Houston. It appears that in modern times, it is quite common for well off men to die off and have no children that are even remotely interested in having fine firearms passed down to them.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
