Hi there,

Please can I have some help. I’m in Zimbabwe and I have a cleaned and boiled impala skull I’d like to take back home with me to London.

Can I put it in my carry on?

Many thanks,

George

Probably UK got still legislation that is similar as in the EU. 90 day drying period but I am not hundred percent certain

I have brought home cleaned skulls to the UK before. I had no issues, as long as they arent CITIES and are completely free of any organic matter you should be fine. In fact, I hardly see a customs official to even check your bags these days.

Do you have a link to EU rules on that? Or does your 'not sure' refer to that you are unsure about the EU 90 days, or unsure about if it applies to UK.

Put it in your check in bag
Def not your carryon

I have been searching a bit more, and found this re Denmark: https://toldst.dk/en-us/individuals/special-rules-for-special-items
It says "
  • Buy souvenirs with care: Souvenirs made from endangered animals and plants may be illegal to bring into Denmark. This applies to, for example, skins, furs, boxes, bags and shoes.
As skins are allowed, I personnally would not hesitate to bring in cleaned skulls, no matter their age; and who can anyhow tell if it was cleaned last week or a year ago.

No idea if it applies to UK, but I could imagine that not all EU regulations have been weeded out yet, so it might still stand.

I think the answer is to put it in your luggage and plead ignorance of any pettifogging regulations in the unlikely event that it is discovered. You can say that you bought it at the airport.

I suspect that you are supposed to have a veterinary certificate declaring your souvenir free from anthrax, TB, rinderpest, socialism, and all the rest of it before importing it.

My luggage has never been checked coming back through Heathrow.

Hi Jon,
I saw your post for the .500 NE cases. Are these all brass or are they nickel plated? Hard for me to tell... sorry.
Thanks,
