I did exactly the same on the z8i 1-8 I had on my double rifle, the rear lens protector closed everytime I took a shot so I got rid of it. The forward one worked fine thought so for the z8i 1,7-13,3x42 I got for my new rifle I only bought the forward one.I have the ones above. I ended up taking the rear one off but kept the front. Easy flick of the finger and it’s open. Nicely protects glass from the dust and any moisture.

I did not had a problem with the cover altering the focus, never had the need to change the focus once set, but what was very annoying with the cover was that every time I fired it would close after the shot/from the recoil, really negating the main benefit of a double rifle. Ended up removing it alltogether and only using the objective cover.I just mounted the swar covers on my Z8i. The eye piece cover SLP-E may be problematic when you need to focus with more magnification. You can't get a full spin on the cover without it hitting the rifle, so you need to close the cover to rotate fully. and be aware, you are now using the cover to focus, not the actual rubber ring. Not sure it will be a problem in the field.
I haven't been to the range yet. But if that happens to me, the cover is coming off, and that means I have to remove the scope, as the cover won't spin off as it hits the rifle. Mine is a 6.5CM, so hopefully it doesn't happen.what was very annoying with the cover was that every time I fired it would close after the shot/from the recoil, really negating the main benefit of a double rifle. Then you will probably be okay, I had it on my double rifle in .375 Flanged Magnum which had quite a lot of recoil since the rifle was light for calibre.I haven't been to the range yet.
