South Africa Outfitters and rifle rental

I think in large part it boils down to how we are wired. If you're good with using someone else's rifle, good for you - sincerely. I have a friend who had exactly one day to hunt during a trip to Hawaii (today was the hunt day, ironically) and opted to use an outfitter provided rifle (which wound up being an older Remington 700 with a Trijicon scope). Me? I have to have my own, even if for a single day. Kill something or not kill something, hunting with my own is that big a part of the overall experience for me. I don't think there's a wrong answer here... just different answers.

I think it would be nice to use your own rifles as part of the experience and include them in the photos etc.
If you are comfortable with what you have and you want to use it great.
If you are worried, don't take it, no stress, no hassle just enjoy the trip.
CBH,
Are you going to use your own rifle when you and Townsend @Bob Nelson 35Whelen go scrub bull hunting? Or, will you be borrowing Bob's custom Arisaka 99 in .35BNE that he's currently building? LOL

@CoElkHunter
He's gonna sell me a .35WhelenA.I. real cheap when he Comes to his senses .

It's actually a nice looking rifle.

I really thought you will trade your 243 for his 35Whelen
@Jörg Krüger
Despite long discussions with Chris he will keep the 243 for his lovely wife.
I have tried to talk him into a rebarrel job to 260 rem, 338 federal or a 358 win they have all fallen on deef ears.
Chris has a nice 375H&H that should do nicely on the scrubbers even if only the calves. He might like to leave the big ones to the Whelen.

He's not getting her .243, that won't go down well. But I'm sure I can find one cheap since they are no good for anything, psst, don't tell Bob
It's his A.I. version I like.

He was reading as I'm writing.
Calves, Big Bob can tip em over himself. I'll be ready with the knife.
Deaf ears, I wasn't listening.
Seriously, I had a recipro saw in one hand, phone in the other and somehow loading the ute. Give me credit I was being polite.

Yeah, I'm using my .375H&H

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]
