SOUTH AFRICA: Back To KMG Hunting Safaris

It is in downtown Johannesburg CBD, long way from the airport, maybe an hour.

There was a thread not long ago that mentioned the Rand Club. Up until that time I had not heard of it. After reading this thread I am disappointed that there hasn't been a thread only about the Rand Club. IMO the majority of the members on this forum have been through Johannesburg on their way to safari and many have been through Joburg many times. I want to thank @Kevin Peacocke and @Pheroze and his son for the info and photos of this thread. I for one will have this high on my list to overnight there if I make it to Joburg once again. Thanks again!!!

A lot of climbing and crawling, but what a crazy day!

Marius has some great Vallie areas, and the mountain reedbucks are also very plentiful in those areas. He will get you to do a good bit of climbing to get into their backyards. Congratulations on a couple nice animals in the salt. The climbs make the hunt memorable and rewarding.

Well done team. Nothing like hunting those beasts in the high ground.

It was the best hunt of my life. Honestly, if I was to write a book about a Vaal hunt it would be this. I am not sure I will convey the experience in a report. I was tired, relieved, elated. Amazing.

Nice trophies. Very interesting about the Rand Club

Vaalies can be a tough trophy to get. Congrats.

Booked a hunt with Wild Willdabeast Safars . Tried 3 times to get there and the air lines screwed me every time. once because my bubbys birtday was not on top of his coved test? I lost $6000 down payment. I will never fly again!

The area has had a lot of rain. There is a lot of standing water on the trails and some of it is just soup. We got the Toyota proper stuck in the late afternoon. It bottomed out and there were only bushes to tie onto. It was a tough go but not the first time we have dealt with bad traction on a hunt. There is a saying that when you get stuck the first thing to do is have a cup of tea - meaning take your time and don't get stressed. It honestly added to the experience struggling with the issue and having the clear night sky turn on above us. Beautiful! We got home to a wonderful BBQ of fallow deer steaks, kudu sausage, chicken, potato and green salad, beer and red wine.

Another day of really hard hunting. A full day hunting. Mostly for the Eland which took a lot of searching, follwed by a very long stalk and climb. And, at the end of the day a very memorable stalk to my son's springbok. @KMG Hunting Safaris has been fantastic.

For those interested in ballistics, the 308 Norma Mag has been stellar. All animals dead very close to being shot, even the Eland which really did not go far. The CEB Maximus 180 grain has performed on the big and small.

Those are some great trophies, keep up the good work.

Hellavu trip so far

I bought a Garmin Instinct 2 a while back and it has a "hunt" app. It gives you a track back feature. But also record heart rate, altitude, body temp etc. These screens shots are the first page of data. The first is the Vaal and second the Eland. I only set the app after we had finally found animals, so not the whole day, just the final approaches.

Great eland, but make sure your son realizes what an incredible springbuck that is!

Good Morning x84958
I have read your post about Jamy Traut and your hunt in Caprivi. I am planning such a hunt for 2026, Oct with Jamy.
Just a question , because I will combine Caprivi and Panorama for PG, is the daily rate the same the week long, I mean the one for Caprivi or when in Panorama it will be a PG rate ?
thank you and congrats for your story.
Best regards
Philippe from France

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
