Somebody needs to buy this 7x57

Pretty penny for what seems to be a military barreled action with replaced sights and oddly bent and milled original bolt.

Agreed. It's more Old than Fine. A much finer rifle can be obtained in that price range.

I've seen that sort of bolt configuration on something else but can't recall what.

Engraving on the action says something about cordite. Would that limit what you can shoot out of it today?

it still has the German nitro and "verstaerkter Beschuss" proofmarks, meaning it was only restocked in GB, but rebarrelled in Germany, He, who scalloped that bolted knew nothing about the mechanics of rapid bolt cycling. good DWM actions goo for 800-1000S, 3500 $ for the wood??

it's new math. we wouldn't understand. 'Hate to say it but i used to drop by Griffin & Howe all the time, check out their used inventory, inquire about custom guns, etc. and the fact is they were peddling a LOT of old crappy guns for way too much money. I back this up by saying i was interested in one particular old big bore (and when they inquired what i was going to do with it-take it on DG hunts, they refused to sell it to me!) LOL Nothing bad to say about their custom new orders-they still had the finest craftsmen from the world over making whatever peoples' hearts desired! The handmade stocks (from a sri lankan) drive their prices through the roof when others would simply use a modern CNC lathe to make a perfect stock for thousands less. But then again, Abercrombie & Fitch is now a girls store at malls. LOL (they were orginally safari outfitters.)

I would never pay that much for a pre 98 actioned rifle, even if it is in my favorite chambering.

I paid $750 for Winchester model 70, very nice rifle in this caliber. $4200 for that gun, no way, no how….

Unless there's something very special about this company that I'm ignorant to, I would say that this is a classic GI, let's hope someone buys this on impulse, rifle. It will likely sit for months or years or just as likely, they'll drop the price by $1000 in the next few weeks, and a few times after that depending on how long it's already been listed.

It's likely a rifle like this on an auction site would go for as little as a few hundred bucks.

It’s a nice looking piece of wood, but that price tag takes the fun out of looking it over. Maybe that price reflects the NY view on guns. Who knows? Seems like a big gamble of $18 to list that on GI and ask $4k.

pretty pricey for that look on my opinion...

My issue is that $4250 gets you most of the way to a new custom rifle with better components. Modern stainless barrels can be had for $5-700, while pretty wood blanks are available for $400 and absolutely stunning blanks that need finishing are available for 2x that. You can find a deceased military Mauser 98 to donate an action for $500 or a pre64 M70 for the same. $2.5k in parts plus 3-4k in labor gets you an MOA rifle with a virtually perfect stainless bore. My view is that 1.5x the cost gets a buyer more than 1.5x the value, and anyone who can spend $4k on a rifle can spend 6.

in the world of gun collectors this is a rare rifle ,maybe a bit high in price but built like a rigby of its time , Daniel Fraser made many rifles on a 96 action as well as Dickson these are hard to find and not as common as rigbys or westleys , hollands ,, here's a holland with the same style bolt handle and my Lancaster for army& navy on a steyr with the same style bolt handle
