So, I Was In The Loading Room Today...

I was in the loading room today and used the last of my H4895....EVER. Thanks to European laws we have lost a lot of the hodgdon powders. Not sure what to try in .223 now, any suggestions? I am thinking to give Vhit N135 a go.

So now that the new room is set up I went to work. I started working on a load for wildebeest for September. It’s been a while so I hollered @Bullthrower338 and got a few answers to some questions and some extra load data.
I got a box of 20 30-06 rounds w/180gr TTSX’s (my favorite bullets) loaded. I did 5 groups of 4 rounds working up slowly. I actually get to shoot this coming weekend so I’m going to see where that gets me. I loaded them with Norma new in box brass so I’m hoping I can find something close to what I want out of this group so I can tweak it next go round.
I didn’t have enough time to start on my buffalo load yet but hope to after work sometime this week. I did get the brass deprimed, resized, and clean.

Seth wanted to come and load 12ga practice ammo. He was like a 1 man shotshell factory and got about 100 rounds loaded up in the time it took me to load my 20 rifle rounds.

Welp, I took some time after work and started. This is my first attempt at loading a buffalo round for my double. Hopefully something shoots pretty well out of this and then I can just tweak it a bit.

So, I was taking advantage of the shelter in place recommendations....loaded a few rounds for my newly acquired JC Higgins (Marlin) 30-30. I haven’t fired it yet. I’m hoping to get out next weekend. Starting out with 170 grain Hornady bullets and Ramshot Tac.

Keep after it boys!

I loaded 300 Savage, 358 Winchester and 45-70 today. Will load a bunch of 375 H&H tomorrow.

FYI - Graf's has 285gr Speer GS for 36 cents each! I just snagged 500. At that price, they are almost as cheap as 235gr Speers.

Go clean them out!! :)

What a bummer. Sounds like you need to stick with the "local" stuff to avoid a repeat of this heartbreak!

Thanks for the heads up!

Nice eclectic day in the loading room....375 H&H and 222 Remington.

Bullet seating is sure a lot easier with the big boys!

.375 H&H for me today too. 300 gr A-Frames and 300 gr DGS
Sure brightened up this rainy day!

The last two days I was at the ranch shooting. I was very happy to see my buffalo rounds all grouped pretty well. The worst group I had was 4 inches and the best group I had was 3/4”. Nothing crossed so I think it’s a good start. The 3/4” load was about 2 grain shy of max load. Now I’ll load more at that and shoot it through the chrono. If it is close to factory velocity at 2300fps I’m going to call it success! 3/4” at 50 meters (regulation distance) is better than the regulation target that came with the rifle which was about 1.5”.

Still have some work to do on the 30-06. The best I got was minute of angle at 100 yards. I’m wanting .5 MOA or less. I may switch powders.

You shooting Prairie Dogs or Deer? :)

Tim, thanks for the heads up on the Speer bullets for the 375 H&H. I expect my grandkids or maybe my great grandkids will use up the last of them, as I did get a few. ;);)

Always happy to help a brother (and his grandkids) in need of a bullet fix!

I’m going to get a little range time in this weekend. My primary purpose is to sight in a couple of rifles that I’ve mounted optics on, but thought I’d load up some 30-06 to take along. Sierra 180 grain BT over a moderate dose of IMR 4451. It was a relaxing hour and a good break from the Covid quarantine and work from home.

Had a couple weeks of quarantine because I was out of my home state for work. Did a little 45-70 loading and chootin View attachment 346825

That boolit looks an awful lot like the profile loaded in the old original 45-70 ammo from the 1800s.

Any idea what mold number those came from?

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
