So dumb questions about the 375 H&H

For modern rifles made in this century, 375 H&H and 375 H&H MAG are the same.

The term “magnum” comes from the length of the case, not the fact that it has a belt. The belt is simply for headspacing. Rimless cartridges headspace off the shoulder and can still be a magnum. Any of the RUM cartridges are examples of this.

It doesn’t look like @EuroOptic has a 375H&H Seekins in stock, although Jake can work some magic to make one show up.

Good luck with your search and let us know how it goes.

Don’t buy junk. Don't buy off brands.
Buy quality, once. You never regret it.
Get a Winchester model 70 or a CZ or a Ruger RSM in .375 HH, go hunt….

On my Ruger it has been a Sh!t show. I had some work done early in the year. New brake and cerakote. Initially I sighted in to discover the angle bolt wasn’t seated properly due to the magazine well guard being askew. The bolt plate was seated crooked, thanks to the guy who cerakoted it but I didn’t discover it until after sighting it in after the new brake. So I sighted in again after the fix to discover “my own fault” I used 2 different rounds. Buffalo bore 270’s and Hornady 270’s. My PH said 50 yards for the hippo and I shot a few at 100 to see where it would hit and noticed it was stupid high, 6-8” and the POI was stringing. Upon advice here I used a lead sled and gave the barrel ample time to cool thinking my barrel got too hot. I finally got it great at 100 in 5 rounds. I got to SA, took 2 rounds at 75 and it was good. After the buffalo we decided to play and shoot at Guinea on the range. I noticed again I was shooting really high at 100. I let it cool for a long time and took 2 shots at 50 and it was way off. Took 2 more at 100 and it was high and left and low and left. All the torques were triple checked on the rifle and scope.

So only after my PH and I got to talking I realized there were discrepancies in the bluing after the initial modifications. My PH seems to think the barrel was made too hot and possibly changed the temper of the barrel by the gunsmith. Note: I had severe issues with this gun smith. I was told the mod would take a week and in fact it took him almost 4 months. I told him I was going to pick up my rifle and he magically advised he would have it done in 2 days. Also, upon picking up the rifle I found the trigger spring to be installed wrong.

After returning from Africa I’ve just decided I’m done with that rifle and fighting an issue that I have tried from every angle to fix and I don’t know what the issue is.
If the gunsmith screwed up your rifle, then he owes you a rifle.
Another option is to send it to Ruger. Let them sort it out.
If there is any expense present it to the gunsmith.
My experience with Ruger has been first rate the few times I have had to contact customer service.

There is a non zero, but almost for sure zero chance it could be a 375 veloplex, which was sometimes called the 375 h&h 2 1/2. That is the reason it cannot be totally ruled out.
I live life on the edge. :-). I will stick to 100% for a newly released production rifle.

Was your rifle shooting well before the gunsmith got a hold of it? If so he owes you to make it right. IMO
Side note , I had a friend that had his over/under ceracoated and when he got it back the thing wouldn’t even shut. I’ve had 2 rifles ceracoated with no issues so it seems to be a crap shoot depending on the gunsmith.

I’ll third or fourth the suggestion to skip the Seekins and get a Model 70. Buy once, cry once. There a reason it’s called “the rifleman’s rifle”.

Or this which the next posting under yours.

Who was your gunsmith?

Depending on whatwork a customer wants done and how good, good means he is in demand and has work stacked up, a 4 month or longer waiting period can be expected.

Ask Ruger, but be ready for; Since you had after market work, "custom" work done, Ruger may not want to touch your rifle for liability reasons.

Can you buy ammo in Africa?

For example, in California now, if you are not a California resident you cannot legally buy firearm cartridges in California.

California residents need to pay a fee and pass a background check to buy ammo, but as a Nevada resident, I need to bring all my ammo with me to California, because I cannot legally buy it there.

I have no idea what the laws are on buying ammo in Africa.

Purchasing ammo in South Africa is easy. All you need is your passport, SAPS 520, and payment. You can purchase up to 200 rounds per caliber listed on your SAPS 520.

As for Commiefornicatenia, legal out of state US citizens may not be allowed to purchase ammo, but I bet the legalities bend over backwards and forwards to allow illegal immigrants to purchase all the ammo they want with or without paying fees and requiring a background check.

Probably a typo on the numbers. H&H is often just the abbreviation for H&H Magnum. I will say though, Seekins produces very precisely manufactured and well-built products. I've used the Seekins competitively for over 15 years with zero complaints.
