Slugs for Bear

I pulled a tour in Valdez at the gate to fill in !
But I worked at PS4 / PS3 / PS5 / PS6 / PS7 / PS8 / PS9 / PS10 and courrier out of Fairbanks.
2005-2017
Good friend of mine was courier out of Fairbanks. He passed away not long ago. Bill Heath was his name.

@Foxi - In New Jersey it was Shotguns Only with Buckshot for Deer for the past 100 years, population density was one of the reasons given but that really makes no sense because the Northern part of the State was rural farm land & rolling hills of woods, South Jersey was pine land woods and marshes….”tradition” that just kept getting repeated over the years. The State of Iowa was also Slug guns only for Deer as was the State of Illinois and I have NO IDEA why….maybe You can let us know why we have some backward State Laws??

You're not the only ones with strange laws.
In our country the silencer was never allowed for decades, because the criminal authorities said it could serve crime and terror if you don't hear the bang like that. They have no idea, the 30 decibels less are good for the ear, but it still makes noise.Today I'm allowed to have it, but I have to lock it away like a gun when I'm not hunting with it..........

In England, where I hunted more often, the silencer has been compulsory for a generation, you don't want to scare the neighbors like that......
And England really knew its way around terror (IRA and all that).
The officials all neigh with the same fervor, only the scale is slightly different

Laikas are not hounds in the classic sense of the term. Although they can also do the work of hounds. They are considered the ideal dog for bear hunters. Laikas are very hardy, they feel fine in the most difficult conditions.

This is an excellent guard that will guard your camp. And guard so actively that it may not let you sleep. This dog will find a bear for you and detain it in place, will run around it, tease it, drive it crazy. Laikas are fearless. And if they are trained in a special way, taught how to behave with a bear or a boar, then they will become not just a friend, but also an excellent hunting partner.

In the photo is my friend's Laika. She is a great specialist in bears. She helped to get many of them. We hunted while floating down the river. And every time a bear was nearby, she began to growl angrily. And we were alert.

I so want to hunt bear with this guy and his dogs. If a person has time to copy/past google translate there’s this other video of his where he gives an account of a tiger attack on two boys in a trapper cabin. He evidently sorted out that problem too. Quite a guy.

I wouldn't go to the trouble.
His dogs were lucky that he didn't shoot one or more of them.
Whether it could be a bear with cubs doesn't interest him either.

@Foxi: the Laws and their “reasons” really vary by Country and of course changing “trends” over the years. Suppressors are the latest “fade” here in the U.S. and I refer to them as a fade because if you look over hunting magazines before 1990s you’d be hard pressed to find mention of them — Now they are in every issue and often on the Covers. While they are very useful for helping to protect hearing and even can reduce recoil - they are hardly ‘essential’ for hunting….but Now an entire generation believes they are needed and I’m sure that has more to do with effective Marketing & Advertising as it does on the hearing & recoil protection they provide. Regardless of my opinion, suppressors are here to stay - they have become “Needed” the same as Camo clothing and “matching Camo” guns —-can’t hunt without them….How did Grandpa do it??

As you can see, he's a SKS fan. I don't think he doesn't have the money for more expensive weapons. It's just that there are such ardent SKS fans, and there's nothing you can do about it. Personally, I wouldn't go for a bear with 7.62x39, but I know people who do it all the time. They like it. And they wield their SKS masterfully.

As for tigers, this is now a big problem in the Far East. At one time, there were few tigers left and they were very seriously protected. Hunting them is prohibited. But recently, their numbers have grown noticeably, they have begun to enter small villages and attack people. Residents of such villages often record videos and complain to the authorities about the tigers. Because they are defenseless: for killing a tiger, an ordinary person can receive a prison sentence and a huge fine. But no one wants to tolerate this either. In general, first they protected tigers from people, and now they have to protect people from tigers.

The only problem worse than the problem with tigers is the problem with bears. There are a lot more of them. And they do more harm to people. In some regions, there are even self-defense units against bears.

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
