Show Us Your Hunting Knife

I have tried a lot of different knives over more than fifty years of hunting. Paul Rasp’s 4” Kephart in 20cv steel (essentially the same as M390 steel) is my most used in recent years. His business name is CPE Knives. Highly recommend. A Case Bose Bullnose in 154cm is the other I carry in my pocket most of the time.

It's always a treat to stop by the forge & watch him make a vast array of stuff. I'm never quite sure what he's going to be creating. While the X-Rhea knife he made for me is great, his Bowie knives are particularly nice. I'm not sure I actually "need" one, but that doesn't stop me from rationalizing about reasons why this would be a practical purchase. :D

Dang that is a true heirloom love everything about it, there are a lot of great bladesmiths but Linn's work stands out to me because he melds the modern with the historic so well.

Canadian Belt Knife shape, made famous by Grohmann.

My wife confiscated mine and it’s now her EDC in a cross draw belt holster custom made by @CM McKenzie.

I’m used to a traditional drop point. I’ve only used that type of blade once. It was fantastic. I need to look into getting one.

A bit more on the knife I started back on page 28 of this thread.....rough shaped up a piece of Ironbark for the handle, still a bit if shaping and sanding to go but taking shape..

More radiusing around finger hole, etc. The handles are only held on by double sided tape for roughing out, still have pins to make and fit but getting closer...

I have a new favorite knife..

ARES KNIFE.jpg

I still very much consider myself a "hobby" quality knife maker.. but Ive made probably 300+/- blades at this point, and have developed a pretty decent eye for "quality, and a solid understanding of what works, what doesn't, what is true/real craftsmanship vs pretty easy tasks to master, what materials work well for what the knife is intended to do, etc..etc..

the blade above was made by MT Maker (steve crites).. Steve donated a similar knife as a door prize for the @Bos en Dal SAFARIS party at TTHA this year.. when he showed me the pics of what he intended to donate, I became immediately jealous and had to have one for myself..

next season I wont be carrying an mdwest knife.. this one will be on my belt... the craftsmanship is excellent (far, far better than what I am capable of).. and the edge on this thing is an absolute scalpel.. Im super proud to own it..

CPM 154 stainless steel, desert ironwood handles, stainless and micarta spacers.. and a really well-executed leather sheath..

Instagram@mtmakerllc is his Instagram...

prices are well below market honestly for this quality of work, the materials used, etc..

Nugget here. A guide gave me the nickname as I looked similar to Nugent at the time. Hunting for over 50 years yet I am new to hunting in another country and its inherent game species. I plan to do archery. I have not yet ruled out the long iron as a tag-along for a stalk. I am still deciding on a short list of game. Not a marksman but better than average with powder and string.
