Shooters under attack in Australia

I am in the first state to be affected.

I think the issue is permanent residents non citizens.

There should be allowances (permits) for visiting sports shooters and hunters.

I’m not sure on the details but this is in part because the Terrorist was living here on a Visa and was granted a Firearms licence in the state that allowed him to purchase firearms.

I can’t get a license in my neighbouring state without being a resident. How does a non resident of the country get a firearm licence

As for Croc hunting it’s not an option sorry. I even considered going to Africa to hunt a croc as I think it is still importable.

Obtained his pistol license then joined another 3 clubs, so 4 in total. Not allowed by law and bought 2 hand guns per club. Then took a couple to the Uni and shot people. How did he get the OK to join more than one club??? How did he get to purchase 8 handguns in his first year when only allowed 2???? He used the same License to purchase the guns as far as I know.

If the legislation is aimed at Resident but not citizen I hope it makes allowances for New Zealanders as Aussie can live there and get a Kiwi Licence.

Whilst I deplore the recent shootings at a Jewish festival at Bondi beach and condemn this act of violence against these or any other people's I deplore the NSW government reaction to legal and licenced gun owner as well.
This act was a terrorist attack and the politicians are saying it's not a gun issue but a terrorist issue.
Despite this they are out to tighten gun control even further to law abiding citizens.
This will limit the amount of guns we can own to 4 .
Lever relt, straight pull and some other types will become Cat C making them almost impossible to own. This even includes the blazer R8.

The stupidity of our government has to be heard to be believed.
They are going to outlaw high capacity belt fed rifles and shotguns. We as hunters and shooters have NEVER BEEN ALLOWED to own belt fed weapons but idiot Joe public doesn't know this and applauds the government decision and will feel safer .
This is another knee jerk reaction by our stupid govt to limit gun ownership because of a terrorist attack.

My sympathy and the sympathy of all Australian shooters goes out to the families of those killed and injured in this terrible TERRORIST ATTACK.
I will finish by reiterating what some of our saner political people have said. This WAS NOTa gun problem it was a terror problem.
I just hope our shooters fishers and farmers party can reign in some of this government proposed stupidity.

Yeah I am in Victoria, I have my Mauser 98 in .416 Rigby, a Sauer .300WM, a Mauser .308, a Tikka .223, an Anschutz .22LR still in the shop and a Weihrauch .22 Air Rifle all stored in a couple of gun cases in a security room at the SSAA Springvale range costing $660 each a year to rent because of the consequences in Victoria if your guns are stolen. I will have to surrender the lot if they no longer allow Victorian permanent residents to own firearms. Having the Mauser 98 destroyed by the police would be like murdering a beloved dog. All this because extremist have been given free reign to make their hateful comments with no consequences resulting in those two evil cowardly bastards shooting at defenseless civilians. At 73 hunting and shooting and sometimes fishing is my only hobby. I think I will checkout New Zealand.

I think Kiwi’s can come ago freely here and on my one trip to NZ. I felt welcomed and enjoyed the country.

I’m not sure how the terrorist was issued a licence but the word visa suggests he is not a resident or a citizen. I had never considered you would be issued a licence without being deemed as permanently living in the country.

My understanding is there are permits for visitors. As far as the terrorists go when the younger one was on a watch list the family residence should have been flagged. But instead they want to restrict Aussie ownership. That includes residents who live here legally and fit in.

One day when I was in Belize I was walking near the beach and met a very nice Australian. A young woman, she was a little upset because she had seen a local carrying a machete. She told me that would not be permitted where she lived. I pointed out to.her that we were in a jungle and a machete was just a tool like any other. This was probably about 10 years ago, but I knew that Australia was already clamping down on the owners of firearms. I went on to tell her that Australia was too fixated on inanimate objects instead of people with bad intent and that they were depriving the citizens their rights and their heritage. I don't know if I convinced her but she did say she would think about what I had said.

Spot on. The problem with leftist (Liberals to the rest of the world) is they are brain washed as kids at school, so can not see the other side. This happened in Aust easier and quicker than many other countries as we had a happy go lucky attitude and did not crack down on it. Then brought in multi culturalism which everywhere, in history, it has been practiced it has torn the country apart. Never worked. The host countries culture and laws must take priority over any others. One of my English teachers told the class they do not teach us what to think but how to think. It should be obvious that this is not true. All people are created equal, but that does not mean they stay that way. That’s interesting and I can understand where you’re coming from because you have a constitutional right to own firearms. Australia does not. Here in Australia it is imbedded in our legislation that firearm ownership is a privilege.

So, this is how simple it is. If the law says you can’t legally own firearms you have 2 choices. 1. Comply…lose your firearms and stay out of jail. 2. Refuse to comply and go to jail and still loose your guns.

Now back in’96 when the shit first hit the fan many of us protested, lobbied, marched and jumped up and down as much as possible. We lost. Both sides of politics screwed us. The media, all of the media, screwed us and we ended up well and truly fucked.

Anyway, I can see where you’re coming from. But spend some time in my shoes and then tell me what you would do.

Common sense ain't so common.
The way we used to do thing that ACTUALLY WORKED is no longer allowed because someone might get hurt. Work health and safety may be safer but don't get the job done.
One Asian country has the right idea for some criminals.
Found guilty straight out the back and shot. NO APPEALS. Then they bill the family for the ammunition.

Exactly right. When is the last time you heard of a "radicalized" Christian, Jew, Hindu, or any other religion committing a terrorist act of mass murder? I do not want to hear about the crusades, or some event in the Old Testament. Let's try to keep this within the last thousand years. Likewise political movements (Nazi, Communists, etc.) are not religions.

Most Muslims are not terrorists, but most terrorists are Muslims. There is no reason to try and make all.religions the same or equally guilty.
