The Dark Side Of Survival
A subject not often talked about but it is a reality around the world
The Dark Side Of Survival is how far one will go to sustain their life in the most dire of scenarios.
It's often not talked about because it usually goes against everything we believe in, this includes eating pets, taking another's life, all the way down to cannibalism.
Many here might know the story now named the miracle on the Andes. In 1972 a plane carrying a rugby team crashed, with no food and desperate some members had to turn to cannibalism to survive a brutal 2 months.
Even in America cannibalism took place with the Jamestown settlers in 1609 to survive a hellish winter.
We prep to avoid such things, but truth is nobody knows the future, many would not want to live in a world where they are watching their kids starve, where they witnessed a loss of a loved one, where they might have to take a human life to protect their own, where they might have to kill a family pet just to get enough energy for their kid to make it a few more days.
Point is survival is not a game, most will be traumatized for life after dealing with a disaster scenario. It's a bitter pill we might have to swallow to stay alive.
I'm trying to keep this somewhat non detailed because stories I read are downright sickening, it goes against most of our religions, most of our morals, and what we know as civility.
To this day I'm still not sure if I would want any part in living in such a scenario, or if I could do the things others have to stay alive.
Regarding tis post, Have you read this book and the story of the Essex?

Survival is a concept that has fascinated humans for centuries.

Stories of people surviving in extreme situations, such as in the wilderness, have captivated audiences for generations. Perhaps it is the primal nature of survival that draws us in, the idea of having to rely entirely on oneself to stay alive. However, surviving in difficult circumstances goes beyond just physical strength and grit. It involves managing stress, making good decisions, and having enough knowledge about your environment to keep yourself alive.
Stress management is a crucial skill for survival. In stressful situations, our bodies go into "fight or flight" mode, which can cause anxiety, panic, and impaired judgment. It is essential to remain calm and composed when faced with danger. Taking a few deep breaths, assessing the situation, and creating a plan can help manage stress in high-pressure scenarios. Additionally, knowing how to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively can reduce stress levels and allow one to better focus on the immediate survival needs.
Good decision making is also critical in survival situations. Taking time to evaluate options and determine the best course of action can make the difference between life and death. It is crucial to make decisions based on the knowledge and resources available while keeping safety as the primary concern.
Additionally, being aware of potential risks and assessing their likelihood can help to prevent further danger.
Having enough knowledge and skills to survive is equally important in extreme circumstances.
Knowing how to build a shelter, find food and water, start a fire, and administer basic first aid are essential skills to have. Familiarizing oneself with the environment and its dangers can also help prevent perilous situations.
For example, understanding how to read weather patterns and avoid hazardous animals can prevent injuries or death.
In summary, survival is not just about physical strength but also encompasses stress management, critical thinking, and knowledge. These skills are crucial in any potentially hazardous situation.
By learning how to manage stress, make good decisions, and possess the necessary survival knowledge, individuals can increase their chances of survival in difficult circumstances.
