Something about big mature muleys, I couldn't stand it. I had to have this mule deer.

A lot of our mule deer have some whitetail influence. Kind of a side effect of having both in the same place. Here's another pic of his antlers, you can definitely see the influence.

I'll admit I was confused. knew the face looked like a mule deer, but horns like a whitetail. Didn't occur to me that it might be both.

Well I wouldn't go so far as to say hybrid he just has some whitetail influence. Kinda "one in the woodpile" type thing.

As a general rule they tend to stick to their own but cross breeding does occur fairly regular.

I don't want to get Gizmos thread to far off topic but.... here is a whitetail with big mule deer influence that my dad killed years ago

Thanks G. Yes it is a cool deer and I believe it's a white tail / mule deer cross. He killed it in Northeast Washington State in the late 60's when the whitetail population was starting to take off up there.
