Good evening, I wanted to chronicle my first hunt of 2025 for roe deer in Saxony.

I am leaving in a couple of weeks to drive out there. I live on the other side of Germany on the French border, and the area is about as far away from Poland and Czech as I am from France.

I dropped an 8x57 barreled R8 semi-weight barrel at my gunsmith in November to rechamber to 8x68S and am hoping to have it back from the proof house before hand. So far this doesn't seem possible. So a casting change, and scope rodeo and I am bringing my 13 pound Sauer STR 200 in 308 Winchester with a Zeiss V8 1.5-14x50 (or something like that). Or my Winchester XPR in 243.

My other rifles are a 300 Winchester, 10,3x68 RWS, and a 308 that weighs 15 pounds. So this little 243 that I bought for yeoman work on foxes. The 243 is not legal for mouflon, so it will not be the rifle. Not sexy, not exotic, but it shoots ok and is legal for everything except mouflon.

The hunt is for badger, fox, raccoon dog, raccoon, mouflon and roe deer bucks. 308 is not ideal for the predators, but it isn't the season of fluffy coats.

I have to try and shoot again next weekend as the ranges are closed tomorrow for Easter (as they bloody should be).

The hunt was booked through K and K Premium Jagd, this is my 2nd hunt with them. The other hunt was great. So why not. More as I get this trip built coming up.

I enjoy the K&K Premium Jagd videos on YouTube. I'd love to hunt with them someday.

Look forward to your updates.

I don't know how many people are in the office, I have hunted with Kai on a driven hunt, and had dinner and breakfast with him. He's a hell of a gentleman. Willy Kuipers is my primary agent, also a wonderful man. Met Willy twice at Jagd and Hund. I am massively over booked (asked the wife) for this years hunts, so I won't get another hunt in with them in 2025. I will probably hunt Poland or Czech with them next year for roe bucks.

They are more expensive than my normal agent, but they have a very high end product.

I think their prices are very fair. I think their hunts in Voralberg in Austria are good value.

If something happens and they become one of those European agents that charges what WTA does, I don't think I will able to hunt with them again.

Spoke to Kai today, he told me to take the 243 and not worry about it.

Bringing my thermal and an electronic predator caller when I get done shooting roe bucks. The package included 3, and I reckon I won't fire up the e-caller until I get at least my 3 and an extra 1 or 2.

Everything is on the menu; mouflon, fox, badger, raccoon dog (tankuki), wild boar, raccoon, and I think Martens too.

It wasn't a good situation.

We were in the high seats on Thursday night. Saw one ok buck, and maybe a 2 point buck (gobbler to German speakers), but they were 500 meters away, and it was dark. A fox that somehow became off limits in full view for 30 minutes with ample shooting opportunities.

Friday morning different area, big open fields. 2 does on the stalk in on the field. I got set up and nothing came to see me.

Friday night back to the same place as the first night nothing but 2 does. rained hard for about 30 minutes then of course nothing.

Saturday morning in the forest on a road and couldn't see any other direction. nothing at all.

Saturday after breakfast wife had a family emergency and we thought she was going to fly home for her aunt. So I came home.

When I left nothing had been shot by anyone. I hope it got better.

Rained like hell on Saturday night and Sunday morning. Drive home was uneventful.

Made it to the Super-Frankonia flagship store in Wurzburg on the way home. Always nice to visit that place. If for nothing else than it is well stocked and fun.

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA

Hello - I was looking at your post from several years ago regarding the Winchester 300 H&H. Any chance you still have the lefty M70 300 H&H for sale?
Thank you, Mike

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!
