Good evening, I wanted to chronicle my first hunt of 2025 for roe deer in Saxony.
I am leaving in a couple of weeks to drive out there. I live on the other side of Germany on the French border, and the area is about as far away from Poland and Czech as I am from France.
I dropped an 8x57 barreled R8 semi-weight barrel at my gunsmith in November to rechamber to 8x68S and am hoping to have it back from the proof house before hand. So far this doesn't seem possible. So a casting change, and scope rodeo and I am bringing my 13 pound Sauer STR 200 in 308 Winchester with a Zeiss V8 1.5-14x50 (or something like that). Or my Winchester XPR in 243.
My other rifles are a 300 Winchester, 10,3x68 RWS, and a 308 that weighs 15 pounds. So this little 243 that I bought for yeoman work on foxes. The 243 is not legal for mouflon, so it will not be the rifle. Not sexy, not exotic, but it shoots ok and is legal for everything except mouflon.
The hunt is for badger, fox, raccoon dog, raccoon, mouflon and roe deer bucks. 308 is not ideal for the predators, but it isn't the season of fluffy coats.
I have to try and shoot again next weekend as the ranges are closed tomorrow for Easter (as they bloody should be).
The hunt was booked through K and K Premium Jagd, this is my 2nd hunt with them. The other hunt was great. So why not. More as I get this trip built coming up.
