Rigby Introduction to AH

Welcome Dave! I used to have a Highland Stalker in 9.3x62 but then married @Just Gina and we took it to Tanzania where she used it successfully on Sable, wart hog, zebra x2, lichtenstein hartebeest, and leopard... and promptly declared that rifle was hers. So I bought another in 275 Rigby, which is now also hers as she shot one heck of a nice old bush buck with it in Limpopo about a month ago

However she does let me borrow them. I am thinking about getting a Big Game or maybe one of your new doubles... or both

One criticism, on the 275 Rigby, please stamp them 275 Rigby/7x57 and cut the chambers to fit 175 grain round nose bullets. The 140 grain spire point is inadequate for general Africa Plains Game but the 175 grain makes it very effective. We had ours, um Gina's, cut out by JJ Peridot. As did other members on here.

You are absolutely correct. Rigby will do it if ordering a Stalker from them through a dealer. I had them do so for mine and it shoots the 170 class bullet beautifully. Of course it does the same with everything else which goes exactly to your point. Simply chamber them all that way.

I’m curious your thoughts on a paso robles made rigby double in 500 NE? Looks to be new never fired, with an elephant engraving on the bottom however not the best artistic engraving and looks more computer/cnc engraved.

My HS 275 Rigby came with both 275 Rigby and 7x57 stamped. Unlike Red Leg's rifle, I did not special order this rifle but rather bought it from a dealer.

Yes, but does it chamber 175 grain bullets like the 7x57 is supposed to? Ours has the same duel stamp but I'm not sure it comes from the factory that way or if some dealers do that. Perhaps Dave @RIGBY can enlighten us.

Ours had the stamp but not the opened up throat. So it was fibbing about the 7x57 chambering

Hi there ActionBob.

When we first launched the Highland Stalker the London proof house stamped .275 Rigby / 7x57. The rifles were chambered for the high velocity round which has a slightly different CIP specification for the 140 grain bullet and as a result, has a narrower & shorter throat.

The proof house then advised us that they would no longer dual-stamp the rifles because of the very slight difference in CIP specification between .275 high velocity and 7x57. The rifles are built as standard for the 140 grain bullet with the .275 high velocity chambering however if requested, we can open up the free bore prior to proofing.

The reason we can't just chamber the rifles as standard for the 170 grain loading is then we would not be able to stamp them as .275 Rigby for the original 140 grain loads. This is an issue that is somewhat out of our hands as the London Proof House ultimately decide on this.

The standard .275 Rigby high velocity chambering will chamber the lighter loads of 7x57 however, the heavier loads and certain bullet shapes wont chamber as standard without it being dropped.
