Rigby Big Game Lightweight 350 Rigby

Rigby built the .416 of Selby on the standard action due to after ww1 the Oberndorf actions could not be obtained . And it was not before the Rebuild of Germany for a few years actions could be obtainable again
Uncle Harry’s Rigby was built on a Brevex M400 action in 1958 or thereabouts.

For anybody interested in a Highland Stalker at the old price.....

I'm not associated with this seller at all, just ran across his ad in Guns International yesterday and it was still there this morning so I thought I'd post the link here.

I have posted video of it cycling. The PITA is posting the video. I'll try it again. That standard Mauser cycles smooth as glass. Barnes says their bullets are supposed to jump to the lands fifty thousandths
For some reason that post kept jumping to Google page before I could finish. Strange.

A "normal" jump to lands is about ten thousandths or less. My 30-06 ammo is factory spec OAL and jumps 10 to 12 thousandths. Perhaps a bit much but Partition bullets don't seem to mind.

No. A standard Mauser in about 49 or earlier.

There was a rumor that the action had been replaced once due to setback. Harry put paid to that rumor with a resounding thump. I know this because I was the one who told Harry about the rumor.

That rifle also had a Jasper Rabourne safety on it at one time. It no longer does. I know the guy who owns the safety now.

It also was used when Harry got it. The rifle was originally bought by Don Bousfield and as Harry put it, he didn’t take to it.

Harry also once told me if he had to start over he’d have a 416 build on a BRNO magnum action.

... Hunting for moose and brown bear is supposed to be rough stuff. Stainless and plastic rules in the Great White North.

If you want one of these cute baby thumpers, I suspect you should order it now. Rigby will probably drop it from the lineup in a couple years ... or sooner.
FYI, Rigby does have a takedown bolt rifle. It comes with a wood stock AND a custom fiberglass stock.

I gather you are not on retainer to Rigby's marketing and product development department. :unsure:

I'm the same as @Rule 303 both my 25 and my Whelen have been long throated to allow me to seat bullets way out so I can utilise all the powder space. My whelen I can have a COAL of 3.4" and still be off the lands with a 220gn Atomic 29 mono.
If I seated the 117grain SST to the canulre I would loose a lot of powder space. The canulre is about 6mm out and the projectile still protrudes to the bottom of the shoulder.
A lot of rounds would benefit from having the throat lengthened in my opinion for what ever that's worth.

If memory serves one of the English gun making firms used M17/P14 Enfield actions when they could not get the magnum Mauser actions. Happy to be corrected if I am wrong.

Perhaps my 404J also has extended throat. I tried checking for lands jump by painting the bullets and seating them further out ... and further. I could never get the lands to mark the painted bullets even though I extended them in the case beyond my magazine's length. I am not interested in gassing up my 404 loads, so a lot of powder space in the case is not a top priority. Don't want the recoil. I seated the bullets to factory OAL knowing there must be plenty of jump and enough powder capacity in the case for modest velocity. Hopefully, I'll get some lighter, shorter copper bullets to group. 400gr is more bullet than I need, in copper anyway. It seems I have plenty of jump and no need for big blunt nose solids to shoot elephants or hippos ... because I will never hunt elephants or hippos. 350 gr is sufficient to kill buffalo and I'll never be shooting any game larger than them.

Holland and Holland did on their cheaper bolt actions in 1950s and were often chambered in 404 Jeffery . Have one of their old brochures showing this particular rifle .

@Rule 303
H&H used P14s to make bespoke 375H&H rifles at one time. As you know they are big actions that can easily be made to suit big cartridge applications that's why Art Alpin liked them for his big magnums.

I was unaware of anyone using them after WWII, but I know they were used following the First World War. This is my .318 built by Cogswell & Harrison in the twenties on a P-14 action. Only the Brits could make something elegant out of the P-14.

@Red Leg
It's a beautiful rifle mate but remember Remington made the granddaddy of the 700 out of surplus M17s and called it the Model 30 and 30S
If you were to try and make a P14/ M17 action today it would cost a fortune.
